TabSel wrote:Why convert when you can use iris v1?
If it was that easy, sure, no problem. With hundreds of subscribers to my Iris subscription the decision gets more difficult and now that v1 is gone, all my existing patches become unplayable for people who purchase Iris starting from today. So that's quite an impact on my business.

I wrote to iZotope as out of the blue they kindly sent me an NFR just half an hour ago, my reaction was political not so correct I guess, let's see what they say.
I got a reply from the product manager who had sent me the NFR yesterday, here are some quotes:
I'm so sorry to hear your Iris 1 patches are not importing all of those parameters - this must be incredibly frustrating. When we undertook this massive modulation system overhaul, we knew it could mean some re-routing trouble between Iris 1 and Iris 2, but committed to building the best possible infrastructure for Iris 2 to make sure that users can try all sorts of new modulation possibilities, without being restricted in the same way Iris 1 had been.

All the elements that go into the conversion between these two systems was complex enough that we have not developed a script for it. We realized that recreating a spectral selection would be incredibly tedious for a user to do, so went to great lengths to ensure that those extractions worked between the two versions and that an Iris 1 preset would reproduce those spectral selections accurately. There were a few Iris 1 patches that we really wanted to restore, and we've had to reassign a few things and tweak each of them manually, but we found that we really enjoyed developing them as new sounds with all the modulation and effects possibilities in Iris 2.
He then goes on how I should embrace v2 as a brand new synth and that it could be exciting to create new sounds based on the old patches while converting and blablabla... valuable input .... blabla appreciation .... best sounding products ...... insert template sentence ..... blabla

If it was a brand new synth with something brand new in it, I would do all of that, but it's the old cake with new icing. It's like marrying my wife again just because she had her hair done.

No, only the spectral selection translates, nothing else, period.

LOL, ignorance is a bliss.

Ug that's a shame about not adding to the spectral modifiability, and not being able to convert modulations, for that price. I'd be upset if I had Iris 1 too.
Since I don't, I'm looking for any testimonials as to whether the original Iris was useful and/or could really do stuff other synths can't, sort of looking at this 2nd version now and looking for some input (also sucks that there are so few presets in the demo)

So you hear zipppshhhhh.....mute instead of a cosmic soundscape which this patch once was.
Hey Samp, (Can I call you Samp? No? OK, Mr. Sampleconstruct :hihi:

I have an idea. I'm a subscriber and enjoy your presets. I'd much rather have you working on new stuff for the subscription (even though I haven't always been present enough to download them in time. (See: new baby)) so why not crowd source it? I bet each of your subscribers would chip in and if enough of them did X presets we might be able to convert them all to sound more or less like the originals.
Hey Mr. Z (zero sound disrespectful), sure call me what you like :)
Nice suggestion! I might make this public request once I have a plan on how to proceed.

In my opinion the iZotope guy stating on Sonic State's video that Iris 2 will load Iris 1 patches is false advertising. That is not good at all. It is also not up to my expectations for content from Nick Batt.

This f**king attitude of izotope upsets me. Imma shitstorm them tomorrow maybe. There have to be more people to send angry mails otherwise they gonna show continuously the middle finger. I love trash2. Even the upgrade from 1 to 2 was worth it but they f**k me over as an iris1 customer.

U-he. Spectrasonics. Camelaudio or other great companies take this advantage and show em your power and the middlefinger. Come on!

Man - that is the quote of the day!

I bought Iris 1 and all the sound sets, and $99 is not happening for me. And $149 is REALLY not happening!

Thats the point bro. In other areas it's just a car just a pair of shoes just some food etc. Such companies wanna f**k us over. No sympathy when they gettin bigger. No care for the customers cause people dont boycott them. Look at microsoft etc. I just wish people would wake up and show with their non-purchases the f**k you finger cause the companies make me sick selling us crap in many areas..... it always starts small and slow....

I'm hating on them, However...., relax. The people vote with their wallets. That's how free enterprise works. Nobody will force you to upgrade.

Tone 2 has done the same thing with ElectraX and Electra 2.
I'm not interested in Electra 2 but this version of Iris 2 comes with 11gig of samples that can be imported into 3rd party synths.
I'll probably buy it. in fact the demo has just finished downloading so I'm off to play with it...

ElectraX patches are fully compatible with Electra 2, this is totally not the case here.
