1. From Brad (Product Manager) via Luftrum, they are working 'all weekend' on preset compatibility (after several outright denials that it is possible). However, if you have been reading about Simon's experiments carefully, there appear to be some considerable obstacles here.
It seems to be a long weekend, is this a good or a bad sign, we are eagerly awaiting the results.

Indeed.

You know guys, the original preset file might have cryptic codes for identifying parameters in it, but they are still codes that have to be parsed by some sort of input script by Iris 1. I just do not think that it should be impossible to make a translation from one table of preset parameters to another. I hypothesize that iZotope wanted to put the new release out in time to generate Black Friday sales and ran out of time to write a preset translation script. So they decided to take a hit to their reputation among its installed user base and then release the preset translator later. This is hypothetical, we of course have to wait to see if a functioning preset translator gets released, and there are also the bugs with e.g. macro controls that has been mentioned here.

Certain things have been totally removed (e.g. Sub oscillator, noise-shaped LFO) or drastically changed (e.g. max release time) so these things will never translate, but as long as they provide some sort of reliable conversion tool for things that can be translated, this update would feel much less shabby.

Hi Everyone -

We’re listening. We’re sorry. We’re working on it. I promise I’m not a robot.

Please feel free to email me directly - brad@izotope.com with any thoughts, concerns and feature requests you have. We’re working like crazy right now, but I’ll try to and get back to everyone personally as soon as we have answers.

Superb, thank you for coming here and listening

Wow, somehow I missed that.

It is good to know that the iZotope folks are paying attention; I hope they manage to fix the issues.

T-I-M-E-S-T-R-E-T-C-H-I-N-G! :hyper:

Please…

And, of course, full compatibility/translation for Iris 1 sound banks.

Is that really Izotope speaking?

Sorry, I had to go there.

They also released Ozone 6 in time for the holidays. Let's hope some things are moving forward there too. My issues need to be fixed all the way around.

As for Iris 2, it would be awesome to be able to use v1 patches. I would subscribe to patchpool's work immediately in that case!

I can confirm this, my first estimation was very wrong in this respect, we are now communicating like normal human beings and I can be a sincere asshole sometimes :)

Can we presume you've already requested restoration of the missing LFO mode, a legacy mode for the 4th oscillator where it behaves just like the old sub osc, and a legacy timing mode for the envelopes etc etc then? ;)

It's all in this thread and Brad has been noting all the things mentioned in this thread, feel free to write to him yourself though, he is probably drowning in emails right now.

Nice to hear they will be addressing many issues with this update/new synth. :)

Do they? It's just a promise. Sale is over before delivery for sure. So you either buy a promise now, or wait and buy expensive, if you will buy after fulfilled.
However either way, it's a quite expensive upgrade for iris v1 licence owners.

But is it an 'upgrade'?

The way I see it it's an update, in spite of the 2.x version number and the hefty admission fee.

With proper time stretching finally implemented (and smooth conversion for Iris 1 third party sound banks), I'd be willing to call it an upgrade, and I'd be tempted to part with my 100 bucks or so.
