Skinny Puppy live in New Orleans

Went see them on the 26th,
and decided to write a short review.

The lineup was Ogre, cEvin kEy on synths with a laptop running Logic Audio plain as day, a new drummer and someone playing bass.

The show started with dOwnsizer, there was a video screen in the center of the stage showing lots of references to war and various disturbing content.
During the first song, Ogre was nowhere in sight, just his voice in the background, much like the 'Aint it dead yet' show.
The second song was I'mmortal, and Ogre finally comes out in this strange costume that looked like it was made out of bloody gause strapped on with belts...the face mask was like a large pointed nose,
Kind of like that guy on Beetlejuice when he streatched his face out.
He had a few problems getting the mask on during the song, but didnt miss a single lyric.
Then came Pro-test which was awesome, and Ogre did a great job on the vocals, considering how much they relied on studio editing...
After that, emptE, I love that song...I remember his mic went out towards the end, but he wouldnt let the guy switch his mic until he finished singing, it didnt seem to affect the music much, and sounded great overall...
Next was VX Gas Attack which was a nice suprise, Ogre removed the costume, and was covered in artificial blood. The synth bass was insane live. I remember when the 'Bethleham' sample came in at the begining, they showed Bush on the screen as if he was saying it.
I think Warlok was next, I didnt see to much of that one, because my wife felt sick, and we had to go find somewhere for her to sit, but I could see the screen full of pentegrams and fire...
We moved upstairs, and I had a better view of cEvin's setup, I couldnt tell what they were, just a bunch of synths, but I recognized the Kaos pad which he used to trigger sampels and for theremin sounds.
they played Human Disease next which is one of my favorites...cEvin was amazing on synths, it seemed like he played all of the keyboards live, and never missed a note.
I cant remember what was next, but I think it was God's Gift, Again the bassline kicked ass.
Somewhere in there was Tin Omen, and a couple tracks from the process, I think Hardset Head and Curcible, all sounded great and were heavy as f**k.
I remember Harsh Stone White, another favorite...I remember Ogre opened his hand and blew white powder all over the crowd...beutifull!
I'm sure I missed a few, but I remember Glass Houses, and a brap they did that was very chaotic and Ogre was screaming "welcome to the 21st century" with blood running like a river down his arms as he held some object to the sky....the crowd was out of control, and they seemed to get louder and louder as the music died down. Ogre and kEy disapeared off the stage and all you could hear was the crowd in what seemed like a feedback loop getting louder, it began sounding like screams of horror the louder it got...all I could see was people looking around like 'what the hell is going on?!?!'...suddenly everything stops to a dead silence and the crowd cheered after they realized it was part of the show.
They came back to the stage and played Smothered Hope which was the last song.
A great ending to a great show...
If they are in your town, GO SEE THEM!
I would like to see them again while they're still on tour if possible, once was not enough.

Bluedad is a Dots fan? Man, you are fulla surprises! Unfortunately, I have been ill for a couple of weeks, so I missed the Pup show last week, and I missed the Dots last night. This is the first US LPD tour I have not attended. They are old friends of mine from way back, so it was particularly painful not to be able to attend. I heard it was an excellent show, though (as usual...those guys are endlessly on the road).

fairly recent discovery, Scott. If I'd had a bit more notice I would've most likely been able to attend either their Atlanta or New Orleans show (NO preferably)

Thanx for the review. I wish I could have been there. Oh well, once I finish shcool I will be back to the city, and maybe I will see a show once in a while too Good to hear they still put on a great show. I sure hope I can see them again some day, it has been ages!!!

The Dots were on tour???
I saw them twice way back, once in 1989, (I think... memory a little fuzzy from back then ) and then again in about 91/92. Really among the most moving gig experiences in my life. Especially the first one; it was at the Town Pump (any Vancouver kids remember that place? ) which was a very intimate setting for shows. Edward KaSpel sort of hopped down off the stage and milled slowly around through the crown inviting us to kiss his wierd little doll/totem thing on the forhead, and that was kind of interesting, but the MUSIC!!! The second time was at Graceland, which was also wonderful.

Weird, I just looked for any tour dates coming to Toronto (my home town), and no Canadian dates at all.
Did Skinny Puppy turn their back to their native land? Hope not. Unless they already did the Canadian leg of the tour, and I missed out - yikes!
Anyways, your wife doesn't have to feel bad about gettin' ill at the SP show.
Same thing happened to me at a SP show years ago! And I'm not prone to fainting at all.
I think it was the combination of the graphic imagery, clostrophobia and my wearing a heavy coat during the packed show (I had nowhere to put it, and yes, it was during the cold months). Doh!
I passed out in the crowd about 20 feet from the stage as I was making my way for the bathroom to get some water & air.
Great show though! If it made me faint - Gotta be good!

They put on a great show saterday night...
especially for the small crowd that was there.
Edward's vocals were mezmerizing
One guy was playing what looked like a sax and clarinet at the same time at points...
the sax had some kind of light bulb in it that lit up when he played a note.
The keyboardist used alot of d-beams and drum machines, there was no live drummer in sight...

There was a table setup with their entire discography, something like 30 or more albums and some vinyl, these guys are work-a-holics

All in all it was a great show,
and I would definatly see them again!

Would have went more into detail, but I'm not too familiar with all of their songs, I bought the new album at the show, it's really good, very mellow and psychedelic...

I don't know why they're not playing in Canada, but they are supposed to go on tour again in the fall with Al Jourgensen of Ministry, hopefully they include Canada this time...
Damn, sorry to hear you got sick, I think some of the imagry had to do with my wife getting sick, she's not a fan, and did'nt expect all the gore..
I felt kind of sick towards the end, but I think it was because I barely ate anything that day, I was too excited about the show
