How do I assign midi instruments?... I have selected correct port on settings page... Once sound came thru midi and Tyros 5 other times it just comes out of RC sound fonts..
If I have to use sound fonts.. how do I balance the volume of instruments?..

No, you don't have to use soundfonts, if you don't want to.
It is not sufficient to select the MIDI output port on the Settings page, you have to choose MIDI instrument for your tracks. That is either a preset from "General MIDI" or a preset from your Tyros instrument file.
I have never seen that a track changes its instrument from MIDI to soundfont. If you found that, please let me know how I could reproduce it.
Please note that when you add a new track, soundfont is used by default. You need to change the instrument to MIDI manually. In the near future there will be a preference for this.
The upcoming v2.8 release will bring new improvements for MIDI usage:
- MIDI only usage is possible - you don't have to set an audio interface if you want to output MIDI only
- a new, very precise MIDI sequencer is used when there are MIDI tracks only in the composition
- a MIDI output port can be set for each track
- MIDI drag-and-drop is possible directly on a track
to mention a few.
