It sounds more complicated than it really is. While you need patience to get excellent results, it's really fun to "draw" the sounds you like.

It is really really fun to draw your sounds and yes it's really easy if you don't think too much about it

My approach is really random, that's what I really like of Iris. You can do random things and get awesome results.

I have little clue what Cycle does ... but by looking at it's web page ... I'd buy Cycle just for it's eye candy alone!

I don't have an exact date when this patch will be available. We want to ensure we are getting you the best possible tool and being 100% upfront about what does or does not work, and this is taking some time. Please keep making music in the meantime - we will let you know as soon as we know more.

Teaser looks pretty impressive. Demo sounds, however, do not.

For sure this synth is a control freak's dream, but can it give any better results than simpler and cheaper soft?

I just received word from Izotope that two simple things needed to facilitate stand alone operation are not within their design and must be opened in a DAW to get these functions. Which are:

1. Sample Rate Set
I have everything set to 48000. However the standalone versions of both 1&2 can only be done in 44100.
2. Midi Channel Set
It is Omni only and receives from every keyboard and contoller connected to the computer. (I have this same complaint for my Tone 2 Synths in standalone also).

This means I must open another program to load them in to get what I feel should be a very basic function that every other standalone on my system has. As they put it, "it won't do that, sorry for the inconvenience".

Every synths has it it's strong and weak points..

For working with the material in the sound file in a visual way like this there really are no other synths that offer this workflow..

It's not that you couldn't create many perfectly useful sounds with simpler tools, but I doubt you'd be cable to duplicate what you can do in Iris with a simpler synth..

Bazille and Serum threads are full of samples and demonstrations that actually use unique powers of these synths. There were also some hands-on movies on Youtube which allow to get insight.
In this thread, however, I see mostly people complaining about patch compatibility...

I'm not a user of Iris (yet), but I did try the BreakTweaker demo and I own Stutter Edit, and from what (little) I've seen so far, with the exception of Stutter Edit, iZotope marketing isn't doing the best job of demonstrating everything these products are capable of. BreakTweaker's launch had a lot to appeal to the dubstep crowd, seemingly glossing over all the real deep rhythmic possibilities of the thing, and the current release of Iris isn't showcasing the true capabilities of the spectral engine's ability to use found sounds like the videos surrounding v1 did, instead of focusing on what it can do with synth waveforms. Small quibble I know, but I feel that if you have greatness on your hands you should show as wide a variety as possible of what that greatness can do.

There are lots in the original Iris threads, the preset incompatibility problems and bugs are probably what is stopping people really getting much into Iris 2 so far.

If you had read this thread more thoroughly, you would have found all these demos already. If you're interested in what Iris is capable of, the Iris 1 demos will demonstrate the power of Iris 2 equally. If it's amazing or not is of course a matter of perspective.
