IMO, you're not going to waste CPU cycles creating a new audio bus, for one thing. And you have more options for adjusting automation within that domain. You could easily trim all your input levels to a bus in a complex mix, for instance, without destroying all of your automation.VitaminD wrote:Why couldn't one just create a Bus track and route the individual tracks to that in order to control that single Bus track fader?
Cubase 8 is out!

ah. It just seems (from the protools video) that this is merely 'non-audio' bus level automation. Not sure many cpu cycles were spent on those busses though. And with the Bus, one would also have the ability to route a sends or even insert effect to it.. so it seems more robust than VCA.
Just the general thought that popped into my head while watching the video! Will be interested in watching it really in action in Cubase.

Yeah, a Group will give you all the extra options, for sure. But if you've already set up your Groups and sounds, this gives you automation-only control, which is nice, simple. I can see the need for it; I often use FreeG to non-destructively change automation, now I can do it within Cubase more easily.VitaminD wrote:ah. That is not the point here.standalone wrote:Of course!!!Compyfox wrote:the last two .5 versions (6.5 and 7.5) were more solid than their actual initial release.
The opposite would be called 'regression'.
The point is, that the .0 versions kind of feel incomplete, rushed, more like beta releases, while by the time .5 hit, everything is fleshed out.
So I'm still wondering, why not extend the development time again instead of releasing a paid update very year? Like PT once did, then Cakewalk with Sonar, and Magix with Samplitude.
Or why can't it go the S1 v2 route? Where v2.6 with all improvements, new features and bugfixes was free, yet the bonus content (VST and VSTi mainly) had to be paid extra. Though I'm sure that they are bundled with S1 v3 (whenever that hits).
Agreed - it isn't the first time that an upgrade doesn't feel right.Keith99 wrote:Don't really care about version numbers TBH, it is what is in it that matters. The list shows some good tweaks like bounce in place that we have been asking for for ages but not sure there is enough there to make me upgrade yet - we will need to wait and see
Isn't it internally called "Pro" or "full" already? I mean, we have LE and AI (mag and gear bound), then Essentials (an upgrade with certain things unlocked), then Artist and then Full/Pro.standalone wrote:And notice that it's called "Cubase 8 Pro". We are all 'pros' now, at last!
I really want to test C8 first before I give an honest opinion about it. And it's time to save up some bucks, a jump from 7.5 to C9 (or even 9.5) won't be cheap.

I did a Google translate from that Muzique link you guys have. Looks promising.
"Cubase Pro 8 introduces a new way of handling screen, a new "workspace organizer" which allows for a more efficente workflow. Screens can be freely placed on any screen and optionally be maximized and minimized, they can get their own title. All your screens are now also visible in the taskbar cubase. A preview screen and mini icons. The "always on top's" organized kleienere (???) plugin screens even when you are in maximum screen works great as if the mixing console screen."
Here's the non-translated link:

I'd be lovely if C8 showed up tomorrow- but Sweetwater says they usually get some kind of heads up on such things - and they have nothing. So... ?
Kawai MP11, Apogee Duet, MPB 2018, Komplete 10, Spectrasonics Trinity, Ivory II, Pianoteq 6, Ravencroft 275, Logic X, Cubase 8, Spitfire Audio (most products), Superior Drummer 3, ST4

I took a dive at this video, and I'm yet again not impressed.cYrus wrote:
Before you go like "aw, not again Fox", let me get to it why:
The video is underwhelming. It presents too much of the minor things, and too less of the important stuff IMO.
For example - the VCA Group is an interesting feature, but I use my BCF2000 with grouped channels and I have a similar behavior? Unless I totally did that wrong with the last 2-3 Cubase versions.
Then what about the "virgin territories"? What benefit do I have? Or did C8 actually only clean up the automation lanes for easier readability?
Render/Bounce in-place looks interesting. But I'm wondering if there is a hotkey assigned. The camera moves away from the important bits pretty much constantly, and is blurred out most of the time.
The Window Handling for "Windows users" is a joke IMO. Does it address the always on top bug(s)? Does it address the hidden GUI issue (media bay)? What about Dockable Windows? And was the Instrument Rack dropped in favor for the Instrument Track v2?! It's not clear in this video!
VST plugins are also kind of laughable IMO. Granted, new amps for the AmpRack. Good and fine, but the rest is just mere "add on". And the focus is once more on "pushing sh*t to it's absolute limits" with multi-band tools like Multiband Compressor, Transient Designer and Exciter. Can't we not put the Loudness War to a rest?!
Massively disappointing in this video, are the enhanced features for the Chord Track. That section was cut (once again) way too short. There seems to be a GUI pop-up if you want to change the chords, and there is also no information if the you now have a cycle of 5th's as well. Why is this feature, that is IMO the most powerful addition to Cubase, always being disregarded or shown "at the start" of a project and not in the middle?!
Then what about minor enhancements like "Metering Settings"? Was that feature ported? It wasn't shown.
Here, a demo version would really help to take a closer look.
Overall, interesting. But C8.0 Pro(!) feels to me like 7.75. So I guess I can and will(!) wait for 8.5 to hit (which will be the "true" C8 IMO).
YMMV of course.

You can visually select chords in the circle of 5th view or the new Proximity Assistant.* The new Proximity Chord Assistant mode provides suggestions from a defined reference chord, taking a set of harmonic rules into account. The distance and colors of the suggestions from the reference chord (at the center bottom of the window) convey a sense of how complex a suggestion is, in comparison to the reference chord. The circle of 5th mode shows you the chord relations as a classic circle of fifths visualization. Best of all, these new visual modes of the Chord Assistant are also available directly from the new chord pads!

Why in the world is this disappointing? Otherwise you have to buy Software from synleor
