Yeah the midi features are great (always has been) ..but the whole UI is a real turn off for me...STILL!

Having used Cubase for some 20+yrs, Cubase 7 was a real turn off ...this new version just spells the end of Cubase for me, really sad

Looking very good. Performance boost for large projects - loading / saving / track counts / vst instrument number all allegedly improved, totally worth it for that alone if it's all that's claimed. Some useful touches like the plugin manager, windows management etc. It's a shame with the redesigned windows they didn't appear to allow a proper collapsed view of the Instruments Rack - that's been called for by pretty much everyone who's ever used it. Just a narrow height track name, half the height of the existing narrowest view is all we need.

I'll do the usual - wait for the early adpoters report back, and if it's not buggy hell then I'll buy it like a shot.

Well, they are germans.

That's why it should be the most logical efficient program in existence ...but it certainly is not.

StudioOne Pro is though, it could just do with a few more midi features & a basic score editor.

Hello,

I'm interested just how much of a performance increase it does have. If it's sizable I may switch.

A lot has been done under the hood.
Projects that on Cubase 7.5 where imposible to run with a 32 bit Buffer size on the Mac, now work perfectly and you can also keep playing and adding more VSTi's. We have even bench it against it's competitor on the Mac and the results where great.

Yeah, the mixer is what makes me stay on 6.5 so far, even if other features seem cool. It is the third update and they haven't even managed to separate the channel faders visually in some way. Not to speak of the sucky hidden mouse-over controls for inserts. And the stupidity to needlessly change some mouse click modifiers from shift-click to alt-shift-click which is a severe pain in the butt for left hand mouse users... Granted, there are also good ideas but things as mentioned above are such a train wreck design-wise and would be so easy to fix it is a mystery to me why Steinberg doesn't grasp it.

Just my opinion of course and slightly biased because my eyes are not good with gray on gray colors...

Now if anyone knows a DAW that offers me a Drum editor and a logical editor like C, hit me (but don't mention the war, eh, reaper.)

Still would like to have a demo version of C8 to maybe convince me to stay with Cubase...

Yeah, the mixconsole seems to be the main point of contention for those of us who have resisted C7 and now C8. I hate hover. It was/is a terrible idea on a mixer.

I will say, although it is a very minor change, the vertical bar separating channels is now more apparent. In C7 I would always go for control 1 bank to the left of the one I wanted to change. In C8 that doesn't happen for some reason. So, even though it is virtually unnoticeable change, it was enough to get me on target. Selected channels are still nearly indistinguishable from non-selected channels though.

the mixconsole is a pain to use if you've only got 1 monitor in your studio..i use Cubase 7.5 and I do like somethings in the mixer such as only displaying what you want it to display,channel fx chains set ups,better loudness meters.
but I hate the way it wont stay at the size you want it too ,it floats around each time you open it,clunky faders (im so glad I have a Steinberg Houston it makes mixing a breeze with my large automated faders if I didn't have that I wouldn't be able to mix with on screen mixer gui)
Cubase since version 6 has been gearing more and more towards the protools user in my opinion,theres no must have features now for dance music in version 8 its all geared towards rock bands and rock bands wont ever be steinbergs biggest customer.most rock bands arnt tech heads they don't like technology they would rather just jam out not sit in front of a desk full of glowing lights and faders.
ableton/propeller have got it right in many ways they understand there customers and don't try and be something there not.ableton don't gear towards rock they push towards djs. reason goes for the dance side ,they know there market and market themselves towards that.
Steinberg though over the past few years have gone more and more towards rock/soundtrack now in my opinion they shouldn't have done that they already have a product and market for that and its called nuendo.in away I think Steinberg know they have a limited buyer in nuendo and they also know that as computers get more powerful and large studios less important the cold hard facts will be nuendo is not profitable and I think there trying to entice buyers of nuendo/pro tools to switch and jump on Cubase so they can slowly kill nuendo off and focus all time and money on one product.
but Steinberg need to realize if they alienate the dance music community that have supported Steinberg from the very beginning they will slowly all move away and join ableton.cubase should have had a set of killer features dance producers couldn't do with out or would be a spark of inspiration for them but they haven't.the new Cubase 8 features don't intrest me at all ill stick with 7.5 and may only update if they add features which will appeal towards dance music in the future.

As a long long time Cubase user .. f**k the dance music community. Steinberg dipping their toe into that pile of shit has nearly ruined Cubase. Use Ableton and leave Cubase as a composing/recording/mixing tool

Maybe my brain is fuzzy on the details, but it seems this has been the exact pricing for an upgrade for at least the last 4 versions, yes? If anything, they are predictable.
