Like done with some other plugins in the past i could get an improved low end from Matrix-12V when using the free Klanghelm IVGI Saturation FX and an EQ like e.g. PSP NobleQ ("Ex" version with the Tube at the output activated).
After checking a bunch of presets of the Matrix-12v demo with those 2 FXs activated the synth starts to sound much more to my liking. :)

Additionally the Schwa Oligarc Drive plugin is always good for overdriven/distorted sounds. Usually this works best with Sync Lead sounds.

I haven't had a chance to try the Solina yet, but I did play around with the Matrix 12 V a bit. I agree with Ingo...

Out of the box, my first impressions of the sound were not super favorable. It was perhaps more reminiscent of a Matrix 1000 than a Matrix 12/Xpander... BUT after putting some "tube" compression in the chain it had a little more of the "punch" that I was looking for. It definitely merits more detailed exploration.

It's actually a really a very nice nice synth, imo. And whether it sounds like an actual Matrix 12 is sort of besides the point (I mean, let's be real). As a synth in and of its own accord... I like the voicing options and the parameters on offer. I can imagine being able to create some really cool sounds with it. After checking the upgrade offer in my Arturia account I think I'm definitely going to go for it!

I agree with you. After "pimping" it up a bit with external FXs it's almost like a new synth now and i really start to like it. As already mentioned the basic sound was alraedy there but it was missing something without a little "tweaking" being done to the sound.

I also found that some patches while looking quite simple (e.g. 2 detuned saws with 2 Pole LPF)at the first look could be in fact quite complex as they use up to 20 or more slots in the mod matrix (there are up to 40 slots) and/or other features from the tons of availablle modulation features. It looks like several patches will be very difficult or almost impossible to replicate with other plugins.

How is it besides the point? If it says on the tin it emulates Matrix 12 - I want it to sound like Matrix 12 :x
They should call it something else then ... Anyways, from the clips it sounds like it doesn't have 0dfb filters or any advanced circuit modelling techniques used
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

Seems to depend on what you already own. V-Collection 3 owners seem to have to pay 99€. I own 3 single plugins and got an offer to upgrade to V-Collection 4 for 169€ (full price is 399€). For 2 of those single plugins i already had a discount when i purchased them.
First i did not have a coupon in my account but after sending an email they added it quite fast.

Most people have probably never - knowingly - heard a real Matrix 12 anyway, so saying it doesn't sound like the real thing might not mean that much coming from most people 8)

When there is so much modulation, does it produce unwanted artifacts of the kind people have observed with the SEM V?

I kind of expected that saying that would elicit a :x from someone! :)

Yes, it does say Matrix 12 on the tin (until the contract expires like it did with the Moogs or with the PolyKB from Xils). But I've become very skeptical about things that say "such and such" on the tin. Imo, we've come a long way since the early days of virtual synths but except for a few exceptions, I think we still have a way to go.

So, yeah, when it comes to analog synths, I'm very skeptical about a plugin sounding exactly like the original. My first impression was that it sounded more like a Matrix 1000 but not necessarily like a Matrix 12/Xpander. Somebody else mentioned the Rolls Royce factor. BUT as I said, it's a very nice synth in and of its own accord. So I will definitely be getting this regardless of what it does or doesn't say on the tin. :)

Can you resize the GUI ?

With Analog Lab it gets really big on a smaller screen, how big is this?

Analog Lab, new version December 1, 2014 :o

Including sounds from SV and M12V

Analog Lab is pretty effed up right now, wouldn't upgrade just yet if I were you. It has serious problems with MIDI keyboards, even Arturia's own.

OK, great tip,

Maybe I'll try and check it out on a different computer first, before upgrading on my main machine.

As for the Matrix 12V, that's the one thing I forgot to do: to see if the gui is resize-able. I was too busy exploring the sounds! It's a dual problem. On a small screen some gui's are sometimes way too big, then on a larger screen they are too small! The gui seemed okay on my 24-inch screen.

Thanks for the head's up on Analog Lab, hopefully they will fix it soon. I probably won't upgrade until the next pay check.

I believe it is a free upgrade.

It's not like they have launched Analog Lab 2. They have gone from v1.1 to v1.2.0.405
