kinda unavoidable... but i needed it.. was loosing touch... and this is on my DAW..
So i need to configure my machine again.
Two boot parttions for a start... one that runs my net applications and one for audio.
Also mi would like the net partition not to have access to my audio drives... any way to block these out ?
My roomate has another machine and these were networked. But my network card is now occupies by the internet connection. I would like to be able to just swap cables and swap between the two connection.. Possible or do i need a hub ?
If i get a hub how do i restrict net on the other machine ?
any suggestoin welcome.. thanks a lot.

Use two drives, and put each one in a removable cage...

Linux seems like a good idea... i worked on Red Hat 6 a long time ago... just for the sake of it... but never got around using it for anything much...
so im basically zilch at linux. I figure the OS is free. So thats good. Do most applications (net based) run on Linux ? Firewalls..??? Virus's wont be an issue i guess...
and what if i plan to stik to XP ? I heard it has a built in firewall, or do i need norton ????
more details would be very nice...

Knoppix, because it can run directly from the CD without you having to futz around much with your core machine setup.

I suggested Mandrake for its ease of use. Rabbits suggestion of Knoppix is good as you can just boot from CD(plus its a handy windows SAM db cracker for recovery purposes.) Lindows is handy for purchasing software.

Oh, it's also a very complete package (the pro version anyway) so you'll get started right away.
Well, that's what my research is saying, I haven't actually installed it yet (real soon now), but these are the reasons I got it.
It's got the developers tools on board so I can actually compile VeeJay instead of just dowloading it and stare at the *.c files. Same for PDP/PiDiP.
Looks solid, it's got KDE and Gnome so there's a very nice graphical shell to look at. YaST should make installing apps a doddle. Theoretically, anyway.
Wondering how well the Mainactor demo will do, too.
But if you want to go real hardk0re, get Gentoo.
I'm not so I won't.

half of them i dint kow existed... no one saz red hat.. so thats out... Mandrake ive seen once... so it might be next. and then SUSe... but ive been told that Suse is rather hardcore. the rest.. dunno.
Also rabbyt.. missed ure post the last time... but i dint quite get ure swap drive thingi.. anywaz, baz arnt available here.. and i dont have cash for another harddisk. Im buying monitors !!!

a free version would be nice. from what i recall i had to install Linux on a linboot partition... and make another swap or something... still stand ? and can linux read FAT/NTFS partitions ??? it wud be nice if it cant.
also i have no intreast in programming or stuff.. so i wud like an easy version. Withought too many frills... when (soon) i purchase a pr soundcard... will that play bak audio.. ???
all said and then.. nothing like having a standalone machine for the internet.... am looking at that possibility...
but the thought of linux excites me.. like it did the last time... but i gave up.
oh... and does KVR look equally good on Linux ????
