Ian Boddy Newsletter December 2012 wrote:DiN30 | iNDEX03 Free Sampler

DiN30 is the third DiN sampler album and has 18 tracks from the releases DiN21 - 29 featuring the artists Robert Rich, Ian Boddy, ARC, Tetsu Inoue, Radio Massacre International, Surface 10, Parallel Worlds, Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock & Bernhard Wostheinrich. It is available as a free download from the DiN Bandcamp store until the end of December 2012. Furthermore the 9 CDs featured on this sampler are reduced by 50% (except DiN23 Septentrional by Radio Massacre International which is sold out). That equates to £5 + postage + VAT (where applicable).

The download versions of these albums have also been reduced to £5.

Just can't get enough of the DiN sound, it's like a happy marriage between Warp Records of the 90's and 70's Berlin School electronics

 1:30 into "Gigacosm" and I'm like:

AWESOME!!!

thanks for the heads-up... never heard of these, and if the rest is like the above, it is sooo "my kind" (well, "one" kind) of music.

Not yet, but let's give it a couple of more days ;)

Ian Boddy the head honcho of DiN has been doing records since 1980, and also a lot of sample libraries, I think I have managed to collect them all from Zero-G

I only came across DiN a year ago or so, but all the albums on the label are recommended listening.

I've just realised I've always mixed this guy up with someone else...

Composer Andrew Poppy (maybe famous for one version of tv show 'The Tube's theme).

Would explain some confusion over the years... :)

Gotta listen to this :tu:
By the way Ian Boddy is on facebook and even though I've never met him personally he accepted my friendship request. He even connects the chat, (I see him online nearly every morning, but I never bothered him with the chat, as I suppose he must be busy with his work). I must have missed his last posts as this is the first time I've heard about this free DiN release.
Thanks for posting the news here, then

if you got any questions about analogue gear, maybe you should?

He got some mean setup:

For mere mortals like me, where such setup will remain a dream, luckily the meister shares his sound via sample packs, like Odyssey:

Yes, Numanoid, I know :-) ... but compared to what he uses, my analog setup is very humble (Korgs PS3100 and MS20 as well as vocoder VC-10 - this rarely used nowadays, as compared to the new soft-vocoders, the vc-10 is practically unintelligible).
Could ask him for some advice if one day I have money to start buying analog again, though...

Korg PS3100 is no laughing matter, that's worth like 2000-3000 pounds these days :o

Post

I know... that's why I refused to sell it and kept it, since the day I found out that Korg only made about 400 units and that means there are only currently in the world 200 or 300 of them (if not less).
It made a wonderful source of samples for my ASR-10 that thanks to the transwave function could accuratly emulate live triple-resonator filter sweeps -- meaning not static, like in always the same sweep as originally sampled, but as expressive as you wanted it, almost like playing the real thing. But unfortunatelly my ASR-10 died on me :-( -- while the 1981 PS3100 is still well alive (!) :-)
I liked to use it only in the studio as a sample source because the beast is very bulky and weighs 30Kg ! -- and as such very inpractical (and not worth the risk!) for my low paid gigs...

The first album on Boddy's DiN label is now available as pay-what-you want on Bandcamp:

Originally released back in '99 as I remember, a classic synth release :)

Thank you, I'm downloading the album now. So far, from what I've heard, it's my cup of tea.
