Okay never mind I think I found the answer- thanks to the original author! (on FL support site)---I swear this is not in the printed manual?
Step 1: - Select the mixer chanel, click No 1 and select the input.
Step 2: - Click No 2(this little icon will turn to orange)and select the file where you want the guitar part to be recorded.
Step 3: - Click No 3.
Step 4: - Click No 4, and start to play or sing...
When you are done, stop the recording and your track will be visible down in the playlist.
Cheers!

It seems like you have to name each wav file that you record, before you record it. This is weird. I like Cubase SX's audio recording abilities much more. My hope is that FLStudio will have better audio recording support in later versions.

yeah its a bit weird. I am also using Sonar and Live..I never intended to really need the audio recording capabilities of FL, but I wanted to upgrade to get the better mixer control...I use FL mainly for creating loops with MIDI and plugins sending the finished loops exported as WAV's to Live---wired into Sonar...All three products have their stregnths, fruity loops is so fast and easy for a starting point of song production...I'm sure future editions will improve the audio part of the interface..

Hear hear to that. Its a great application which is let down by a clumsy recording process. Even Cubasis V2 (ancient) is far better. Still I have a lot of faith in the FL team and I am sure that V. 5 will sort it. It will become the only app you need.Igor 4000 wrote:I really dislike the current process of recording audio in FLS...too many mouse clicks.

1) Im confident gol will change that on the future, IL surely knows FL audio recoding needs improvement.
I only hope they implement something like Tracktion, where you have "STOP" and "Abort and restart" so if the take is plain bad you just click once to start again.
2) Notice that, if you record from a mixerchannel that already has effects, those effects will be recorded aswell, so it's highly recommended that you record from another channel without effects, routed to the channel with effects (for you to hear the effects realtime) that way you get the dry signal.
Cheers.

Funny thing is I actually found myself using the Audio Recording in FL Studio today. I tend not to name the files as it automatically puts the mixer slot name as the file and increments them by one on each subsequent record. Not too bad as it turns out.

Talking of which, and lifetime free updates and all, anyone know when V5 might hit the streets?

I keep my ear to the ground and I've heard rumblings about something could happen around late summer....or maybe that's a damn pebble, perhaps keeping my ear the ground isn't such a good thing...
