Midi overriding VST output (piano only)

New user - couldn't find information on it despite fiddling around aimlessly with options in program, and multiple forum and google searches. Was hoping someone would know what to do here.

Kontakt 5 NI - VSTs (other than piano) route through the midi piano and use VST sounds as normal.

When I use a piano VST (several tested), the midi from the piano overrides the VST output, where as say for example string instruments, is not a problem.

Ok-are you saying that a piano sound always comes up even when you want other sounds?

My guess is your midi controller is sending program change midi signals(presets), and always switching to whatever sound is on that preset.

VST's work as they should - except piano VST's, which play the midi onboard sound when routed through a kontakt VST. I can manually click the VST display keyboard and the VST sound comes out. I guess I don't understand the discrepancy - it only does this for piano VST's.

hmmm midi doesn't have any sound, is it that you have the computer's built in "general midi" soundset getting triggered-in the host I use, it is a possibility that it could be turned on, maybe only connected to a certain midi input channel. Still just guessing

Using a yamaha CP5 stage piano - the inbuilt midi from the device is playing through the VST instead of the VST samples playing. Only happens with a piano VST and not string VSTs for example.

Ok, it could be general midi soundset in the computer, I don't use Kontakt....but midi has no sound, it never has. To get sound that your keyboard makes would take an audio cable, or a USB connection(which could provide audio, but it would still not be midi that you're hearing)
