Hello everybody, as you can read in the title, i am looking for years, to that specific bass sound in french house and funky house , i tried again and again without any results (simply cool funky bass with trilian) and i listened recently to the bass of miguel campbell in tne track : Popart - Florescent Love (Miguel Campbell Remix) , really amazing, please, if someone could help me, it will be very cool ! How i can do that ?

For such bass, I would try Scarbee Jay Bass.

Thanks guys, @terryblemix, i 've tried in kontakt but what do you mean , in the factory library ?

@waltercruz, yes jay bass is nice but do you think i have to try many filters to recreate that kind of bass.

What specifically are you having problems with? What can't you get right?

First i don't manage to have such the same sound, i try using trilian, i used eq to filter tu cut to 80 hz and to 245 hz with cool reverb and the result is close to that kind of miguel campbell bass. But my bass is not as expressive as miguel campbell's (maybe my bass is too filtered ?) that's why i am looking for a preset or a vst more expressive ?

ps: sorry for my english, i m french ! lol

Not a problem, it's the UN round here!

OK some tricks to try...

EQ
Not just rolling off high & low, but have a look at making surgical cuts & boots. Get rid of any overtones and make sure it sits nice with the kick.

KICK
Track like these are imitating disco type sounds so a smaller kick is better to allow the bass to sit underneath and around it.

SIDECHAIN
Not too heavily, we're not making bangers - just enough to get it to breath a little and have the kick sit on top of it.

NOTES
Pay careful attention to note length, velocity & swing. These are SO important when trying to imitate a bass player. Remember, you're trying to make something not human sound (more) human.

COMPRESSION
Make sure you smooth it all out so it's all working as one sound rather than notes popping out everywhere.

IN THE MIX
Reference it against just the kick, with all the drums, and then with synths as well. You'd be surprised how good something can sound - until you put a pad over it and you can't hear a certain note.

Maybe also post an example of what you've got so far so we can help you smooth out your work.....
