I like and have MMultiBandGranular too, very nice control and some whacked out presets.
Also had free KTGranulator in past (actually still do and fiddle with it occasionally), it had been replaced by "SaltyGrain" by SampleSumo, looks like same thing but enhanced, and sounds a bit higher fidelity from the demo, but not sure about $86 for this.
Was also going to recommend "Granite" but this uses samples also which you indicated was a non-starter, but it's still pretty cool, with lots of automation you can record realtime and watch the circular bars grow and shrink as they playback.
Hadron by PartikkelAudio is another cool free one, realtime audio effect (they call it a synth because it can also generate it's own tones) with multiple modulations and multiple ways to "play" them (sort of a vector, 4-modulation XY area, as well as "expression" sliders), not quite as intuitive but fun nonetheless (note, it appears they make their $$ by then selling expansion packs for Hadron, because the free VST itself only has about 3 effect presets, although you can easily choose different mod types for the vector corners.)

Never heard of Hadron. I'm gonna check it. Thanks

Here is some speech transformation with Melda's granulator. Speech is always a good source to display the capabilities of granular synthesis, as it relates to all (or most) of us and any transformation can be comprehended much easier:

Running MultiBandGranular in synced grain mode (triplet based), using a sequence played with some of my Chromaphone patches as input sources. So this lets you use it as an advanced synced delay if you don't randomize parameters like e.g. pitch or random position.

Nice job, Simon! :tu:

Indeed. Always intrigued when i see granular synthesis being used, really interesting sounds possible with it. Always wanted to give Loomer Cumulus CM a go, which rests in my plugin folder. I think it's time to do so soon. :)

That's true. The downside of granular synthesis is that usually you end up with hours of interesting sounds that are somehow similar.
In my experience it's often the best to have a rather concrete idea what you want to realize and then doing it.
Or doing a session and then isolating the parts that are useful.

So I have a question for the Reaktor Gurus out there: is there an ensemble for Reaktor similar to Melda's MMBGranular?

Here is another video with Melda's MultiBandGranular, this time focussing on the modulation system and what it is capable of:
