The interface is one of the things I like best about Mixcraft. It is not one of those cold, dark, techno interfaces like in FL etc. It looks like made by humans for humansluxgud wrote:The interface seems old fashioned and reminiscent of something I used about 10 or more years ago - pity really as it belies a good and fun DAW.
Would I purchase it ? .... well it's cheap at $90 , possibly.
Mixcraft 7 is here

Mixcraft is, as they say, "A really nice chunk of code". When you view it objectively (I know, that's asking the impossible on KVR
) certain things become pretty clear... (to me anyway, mmv)...
1. The developers aren't hacks.
Some of the functions are very well done and their video implementation overall might easily be "best in class" across the board for anything anywhere near that price range in any audio workstation anywhere.
2. They're very clearly mostly targeting the enthusiast market. That's not a knock, it's obviously easily capable of professional results but it's also clearly marketed mostly towards enthusiasts, not full time professionals. That's certainly not a negative from a business point of view because that's where a really big chunk of the money is.
When you look at the design and feature set of what is a version 7 workstation, a somewhat late stage of development, it's evident that they're not going after the higher level Cubase or Logic user and similar, which is perfectly fine, especially if they're selling product and making money.
I like those guys. I respect developers who paint a target and stick with it, and not try to be a digital Boy Scout knife, trying to be everything to everyone because users want every daw to do everything.

Hi, a basic question about Mixcraft 7 -- say I have 5 midi tracks, each feeding a different library within a single instance of Kontakt. In Mixcraft, can I send the audio output from each library to its own Mixcraft mixer channel? Also, could I do the same wiuth the output from a single multitimbral library, e.g from Kontakt drums?

Yes, that is very easy to do.lingyai wrote:Hi, a basic question about Mixcraft 7 -- say I have 5 midi tracks, each feeding a different library within a single instance of Kontakt. Just press the plus sign on lower left on track to expand as a folder.
And creating the extra out was rightclick somewhere as well - just check which outputs to use. I think it was when added the instrument - one column in list with [outputs]-button to configure.
All audio outs from multiout instrument become children of a folder.
This folder is also visible as a tree in mixer view - and it's easy to hide/show any child as you like.
A single track can also have multiple lanes with midi to the same instrument on a separate midi channel.

They are basic, but pretty good, they do the trick and provide all commonly used features
That is what I like about MC as a whole, it is not freakish, but made for normal users.
The omni sampler allows you to attribute a different sample to every key of a full keyboard. So you can build your own drum kits etc.

Only problem is that they are locked to use in MixCraft.fluffy_little_something wrote:And the new version of the ME80 as well as Renegade...
I have Mixcraft 6, and have not been able to use the included plugs in other DAWs

Only a few seem tied to MC, for instance iZotope and the Rhodes emulation, forgot the name...

I downloaded the demo out of curiosity earlier, fired it up and had a listen to one of the demo tracks. I started to do a bit of editing of the audio in the project to see what sort of features it has - tried to drag copy an audio clip (hold ctrl+c and drag the audio) and Mixcraft promptly crashed. Is it known to be a crash prone host? I'm also aware that there were some timing drift problems in the past - does anyone know if this was addressed? Seems like a very nice host in terms of ease of use.

Not for me anyway, but haven't run complete project through it yet.do_androids_dream wrote:Is it known to be a crash prone host?
If anything - very stable. Some minor pops in audio while playing, but nothing more than that.
Had issues with inserting SuperiorDrummer 2.4.0 - but it turned out to be a fix 2.4.1 in Nov - fixing that. So SD had some issues in other hosts too.
There is a build 248 now if that might fix anything.
Otherwise, report to their forum. Devs are really active there.
I like MC7 too, really good thinking on so many things.
Might be my runner up for continuous work.
