As one of the people that got a lot of use out of the free beta, i honestly think that if it had been released at this price originally things may well have turned out differently for Helix. It was a great synth back then, i dare say its probably still a good synth now. I may well give it another go if this price is gonna stick.

Yup, then the price now would be $39mutantdog wrote:i honestly think that if it had been released at this price originally things may well have turned out differently for Helix.

Hi Jonas,JonasNorberg wrote:Hi all, Jonas (the author of Helix) here, After reading this thread (a bit late I agree) I realize that Helix has been around for a long time now, and it's time for a price drop. New Price $75 (including VAT for you Europeans). So if you've been on the fence about Helix I hope this makes it easier to take the plunge! As always find it here: http://www.audjoo.com
Merry Christmas (or Happy Holidays, whatever floats your boat),
Jonas
Thanks - that's great news. Is this a permanent price drop, or just for the holidays?

I would have seriously considered this at that price last year.
So with this 'new permanent price' I might consider it again when there is a sale on that.
Sorry, I have always liked it well enough, but as a 'long in tooth' synth, feels it should be 'legacy priced' at this point.
Is it NFR on first purchase?
That would warrant a bigger discount if it is.
Nice demos btw.

That demo is fantastic, thanks Vort3x! Very impressive sounds, and beautiful music too.
I don't know why people are complaining about the interface, I think it looks really clear and well designed. I couldn't get any patches to go above 3% CPU on my i7 860, with eight notes playing.
Does the demo come with all the patches? It looks like it's only got a small selection.

Great excellent synth. I love it. The sound is top notch still.

Again, instant NFR means no resale industry, which means the interest effectively dies as soon as people stop buying it new. A few second-hand sales may well have helped to keep this synth alive and also secured a market for a paid v2 upgrade should it ever transpire.BBFG# wrote:Is it NFR on first purchase?

The idea that if you don't like it you're stuck with it doesn't instill confidence in buyers.

Jonas, is the demo supposed to come with all the presets? I only have about a hundred with mine, something like that (definitely not a thousand.).
NFR really puts me off buying too, you needn't worry about lots of secondhand sales, I did a search on the Marketplace, and wrote about it in another thread - even the most successful synths only had something like five to six secondhand sales per year- well, offers for sale, I don't know if all of them actually sold or not.

Does one really have to worry about the NFR status, when it only costs 60 €? Really, it's a steal for that price... considering the go rate for used stuff is about 50 % of the new price, you'd get like 30 € when you sell it. Work 2 hours more, and you don't have to sell it.

Since when is it NFR at first purchase?... Actually, I remember I bought it full price some years ago... then sold it, due to the fact it crushed in Logic and there wasn't any solution (the developer himself had to admit it). I just sent a mail to the developer, gave data of the new owner and deleted my auth code. Great sound, but crushes in Logic (or does not even open) and quite ugly GUI for such a good sounding synth.

Well, some clarification on this would be good.
Yeah, i agree. I don't generally buy something thinking about its resale potential, but we all know the amount of GAS on this forum and the obvious impulse purchases that result from that.
