I think that if you need to put a plugin after a virtual synth, it means that the synth isn't good.

Even so, Arturia plugins sounds very good but are more difficult to learn than modern virtual synths. I don't want another engineering study to understand the matrix.

They have similar sounding. True, like most the synths have (B&B sounds and more).

This post has monopolized by Matrix 12, what do you think about Solina? Solina's patches do not surprise me much but I love VOX Continental V patches.

I have always loved (yes, thats a strong word :D ) the Solina.

This version seems to do it justice and is a nice addition to the collection.

Another tool I am getting into is Spark 2.

So many cool drum sounds, very useful.

Anyone using that yet?

One disclaimer- with the exception of an Ensoniq EPS 16 and an ARP Solus, I've never owned any vintage synths (and those two aren't exactly coveted). The point being that whether these emulations nail the original sound is lost on me. Makes it easier to just like them for what they are. Ignorance is sometimes actually bliss.
Not to derail the thread but who are you liking Cubase 8?

Is it worth the upgrade cost?

From past experience, I have found it best to wait with Cubase.

I think there a bunch of things that are great about C8. The one big bug that is my only real gripe (and they are working on it), is a problem with plugins not behaving when set to the default "always on top". Modal screens tend to not appear, like say...a preset browser, etc. Other things tied to the same problem. It is solved by a couple of clicks to turn of the AOT option, but it recurs. I'll live with this for now, and enjoy the render in place options that are there now. They made me re-think how I develop songs, for the better. So, yeah, I would be sweet from day one, were it not for this bug. There may be more that I haven't seen yet...I'm not a power user.

Yes, and it also has better CPU efficiency.
I noticed that C8 seems to handle the Matrix 12 much better then 7.5 did.
They did a complete engine re-write in C8 which runs more smoothly.

Also, the layout enhancements help considerably is getting around.
Some thing Cubase needed for a long time now.

Patch brings us full circle and back OT in tying C8's CPU performance to improved Aturia plug performance. :)

To answer if it's worth the upgrade: IMHO, yes. I think it's worth every cent to get it now, as is. I can't quantify anything, but it does appear to run smoother and faster and more reliably. ...also, the plugin manager is the stuff. Much needed...so that I can choose my Arturia plugins from a perfectly organized list. :wink:

Not crazy from what I've heard from the Solina stuff either. I think of AIR so much with the Solina and nothing really sounds like that from what I've heard. Get that vibe more with VSM.

Not sure what you mean "Solina stuff", I didn't make any demos with the Solina.

Arturia makes emulations of vintage synths, thus the vintage sound.
If you want a more modern sound then vintage synths is the wrong direction.

Personally, I like the Solina, Matrix 12, CS-80, vintage drums sounds etc, etc...
Give me warm, analog pads any day. :)

The Windows version of Cubase 8 is a blatant beta pushed out to satisfy manager deadlines. I know you're used to hearing that (about Cubase) but version 8 has taken this to new levels. There's a TON of new issues, along with all the wonderful old issues (apparently Steinberg still doesn't know how to fix crash on exit bugs.. )

Windows Cubase 8 performance is basically the same or slightly worse. Anyone telling you otherwise is basically saying "I don't know what ASIO-guard is or does" :dog:

There are improvements, but overall they've made a big enough mess that I would seriously recommend you wait to try the demo. I don't think it's something which can be cleaned up easily. Apparently the Mac version was more important to them.. :roll:

They should've just given everyone the tabbed Windows we asked for. Instead someone had the bright idea of trying to make the Windows version behave more like the Mac version, creating a bunch of nasty / weird bugs in the process.

Speaking of bugs.. Has anyone managed to get a response out of Arturia about fixing the reverb bug in their Solina V plugin? I'd like to give it a proper demo, with the included convolution impulses, before the upgrade discount deadline passes..

I meant "solina stuff" not from what you posted, but because the title of the thread.

I like vintage stuff very much so. Just saying the kinda predictable drift sounds very non-vintage.

I agree.

I may upgrade, I haven't decided yet, but, so far, I think that the VOX is the best part of the upgrade.
