The way it handles plugins now, it's beyond belief. Really elegante and streamlined. Render in Palace...
Ok, sorry to spoil the party, but as a Cubase 7.5 customer who has paid every friggin upgrade since ever I find it hard to believe that I have to shell out €99 for such core functionality as inplace bouncing and a halfway decent way to sort plugs. Functionality that my other host (S1) btw had from day one.
That'e an opinion. Fact, I'm really happy with C8.
No one forced me to update, not tob 8, neither to 6 and 7, which where versions I didn't"t like as much, because the trade off bettwen new features and the effort to deal with the learning to use them didn't pay off.

No. BOTH are opinions. Neither are fact. Your experience and his experience are different in kind. Does not mean that the opinions are wrong, just means the experience were different.

I downloaded the 9 GB Cubase Pro 8 file from the Steinberg website, but does anyone know if I need do anything with the Additional Content folder that comes in the download? It has a VST Sound folder with a bunch of '.vstsound' files.

I've always had weird experiences downloading Cubase. Bought Pro 8 and my hard drive was telling me after having 80 GBs free, that I was down to 9 GB left after the downloading and I didn't have enough ram left to install the update, but after I freed up a little space and installed Cubase Pro 8, my hard drive is back up to 74 GB. Not sure what was happening, seemed like downloading installed a bunch of temporary files (each 1 GB) on my hard drive, but are now not there after installing.

I do seem to recall, that the downloaded versions need to be extracted first, then the installer extracts once more, installs the 9GB (or whatever is equivalent to the host's filesize and settigns used). After that, you have a bunch of temp files that might eat some HDD space.

The .vstsound files are usually part of stuff like GrooveAgent, HalionSonic SE and the Media Bay. Sometimes you can chose to not install them to get a more streamlined Cubase. But you will ultimately loose out on the sounds and VSTi of course.

I, at a rapid rate, keep encountering a problem with the metronome not working. From researching the issue, this has been a Cubase issue since like version 5. This barely happened to me in the two years I used C 7/7.5, but now it's happening ALL OF THE TIME. It's quite maddening as I work with all MIDI and using the MIDI click doesn't work for me, as that Steinberg page suggests as a fix.

Checked the Metronome routing and level in the Control Room yet?

This is a known issue introduced in Cubase 8. A Steinberg mod corroborated the bug in their General forum and is most likely in their bugbase by now. With luck, it should be fixed in the first "dot rev" release. The long standing click bug was fixed in C7 and 7.5. This is something different, as it's more than a missing first click beat (the original bug). This time....the entire click craps out after the first record pass.

Do you know what folder I should put the .vstsound files in? It seems like the .dmg installer doesn't load these and they maybe need to be placed in a folder manually. I'm not sure. Maybe they were installed with .dmg file, but knowing where they go would allow me to double check.

Ok, good to hear it from someone else. It seemed strange that a bunch of temp files were on my hard drive, but I guess if that's what Cubase needs to do it's thing, then ok. I did extract the file and loaded the .dmg file from the extraction after that. It's weird, because the extraction was 9GB, but the .dmg file needed 13 GB of space to install (though because I had Cubase 7 I think it only needed to load half of that).

I am no Mac user, so I can't help you there. But Steinberg does install those files automatically. As I said, they are part of the bundled VSTi and MediaBay. Unless you say during installation (read: custom installation) to not put them on the HDD.

Else... temp files should only be an issue if you explicitly grabbed an online installation bundle or something. I never had issues with temp files from DVD (DVD9 actually). And even if there were temp files installed, a quick run of CCleaner to clean up my temp folders got that sorted. My boot drive is a 160GB SATA-II one. And it's barely 50GB full with Win7 and all kinds of hosts, VSTi and tools installed.

I still read way too many issues with C8 to even consider updating. Demo versions and LE versions are not available yet either. So... the pain of being an early adopter. If things are handled like with C7, I think a sit out until 8.5 or even C9 is looking more and more realistic.

I beg to differ.
That"s a fact, as right now, i'm fully satisfied with Pro 8, even considering some glitches or stuff I don't"t appreciate much, like the new sissy windows behavior or the damn channel strip, it should be more customizable.

Is anyone running Cubase 8 on Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.5? For some reason, I can run the 32 bit mode of Cubase 8, but it will crash if I try the 64 bit mode.

Thanks for the clearing that up. My temp files were cleaned up automatically after the installation it looks like.

I'm not sure that's fully thought through - I don't want to seem overly negative, but I'd lay money that C 9.0.0 will have some brand new bugs all of its own.

C8.0.0 is working pretty well for 0.0 release, but unless I had an urgent reason to upgrade, waiting for 0.1 or 0.2 makes a lot of sense. For me, the dodgy metronome, Kontakt always on top and VCA group arming are all things I want to see fixed with some speed and urgency, plus a few other tiny niggles. Also waiting for a VSL fix for their VE Pro 5 software that doesn't want to play with ASIOguard 2. But the bones of it feel very solid, instantly greatly preferable to C7 or C7.5.

I think C8 will be remembered in years to come as the one where Steinberg got super-serious.

I'd agree 100% with that. There are irritating things and there are some bugs... welcome to software though, right? But Cubase Pro 8 feels like pro level DAW. Awesome job they are doing over there.
