Thanks for the post, my gut told me to wait, X.0 cubase versions have been consistently problematic for me.PAK wrote:The Windows version of Cubase 8 is a blatant beta pushed out to satisfy manager deadlines. I know you're used to hearing that (about Cubase) but version 8 has taken this to new levels. There's a TON of new issues, along with all the wonderful old issues (apparently Steinberg still doesn't know how to fix crash on exit bugs.. )Sparky77 wrote:Not to derail the thread but who are you liking Cubase 8?
Is it worth the upgrade cost?
From past experience, I have found it best to wait with Cubase.
Windows Cubase 8 performance is basically the same or slightly worse. Anyone telling you otherwise is basically saying "I don't know what ASIO-guard is or does"![]()
There are improvements, but overall they've made a big enough mess that I would seriously recommend you wait to try the demo. I don't think it's something which can be cleaned up easily. Apparently the Mac version was more important to them..![]()
They should've just given everyone the tabbed Windows we asked for. Instead someone had the bright idea of trying to make the Windows version behave more like the Mac version, creating a bunch of nasty / weird bugs in the process.

I'll just slap my non-ASIO guard understanding bad self in the forehead and lower my self-image one notch.

Sorry.. sentiment aimed more at Steinberg selling v8 as a performance booster. Which it might well be on Macs (where they didn't exactly offer Logic Audio level performance).rustman wrote:I'll just slap my non-ASIO guard understanding bad self in the forehead and lower my self-image one notch.
But, unless you're coming from an older version of Cubase without Asio guard (and even then.. ) there's no secret ninja code optimization to make things run faster on the Windows version. It's also, easily and by a wide margin, the most buggy version of Cubase I've ever used. There's just a crap ton of bugs for me on Win 7.
I'm also running systems based on PCIE cards. So it might well be possible that those extra buffers could help external USB/Firewire devices more.
It's just it's been a mess of a release for me.. YMMV.

No worries. It just seems to be going much smoother than 7 and 7.5 did in terms of getting my 3 monitor setup sorted and not getting constant crashes and lockups. So far it's been snappy and reliable in Win7 64. It installed quickly with zero issues, and fired right up. It coexists with 7 and 7.5 on my machine. The entirety of my audio software is running from SSDs with a USB audio interface. I haven't had a chance to push the ASIO performance yet, but I did encounter drop outs on 7.5 and froze tracks regularly. Render in place makes that quicker and more flexible.

Plus render in place allows for 32-bit floating-point which will result in a better quality mix if you are rendering multiple tracks.rustman wrote:No worries. hey guys,
I did most of the DSP on this synth and it makes me very happy to hear that more and more people are liking it now. Thanks a bunch!

Hi Layzer,
I'm Toby, I did most of the DSP for the Matrix 12. There is actually very little shared code between the SEM V and the M-12 V. We used the SEM as a starting point for the square and saw oscillators because it uses what we believe to be the best approach to implementing great sounding virtual analog VCOs. From the "generic" oscillator code we then tuned the oscillators to get the specific tone of the Matrix 12. That is really the only shared tone generating code between the two synths, the filter section was completely developed from scratch as were all of the modulation sources.
Speaking as an individual, I really care about this community of plugin users; I'm one off you guys! I, like the rest of my colleagues have no intention on selling you a reheated SEM V! I hope you guys try the synth (free demo btw) and come to your own conclusions about it. I had a lot of fun making it and now it is the main synth I use in my own tracks. If you guys have any questions about it please feel free to get in touch and I will do what I can to help.

Toby - would be nice if you could post some side by side audio examples from the M12V and the Matrix-12 you modelled. Also, was the unit you modelled an American or Japanese version..?
Nice to have you here, always good to hear from the developers.

I reached out to Arturia days after the release. After a series of exchanges, the response was it is something the devs were working on. I've not heard a word since. Btw: reverb in Vox V does the same thing.

They are aware of these issues, I trust they will do what is necessary.

None whatsoever, J8 V was developed long before my time, but I may be able to help if you have questions about it

That's a great idea, I will get a few bits and bobs done tomorrow and post them once I'm done (which will be tomorrow); triangle, saw square and a couple of filter modes sound alright? Anything in particular you would like to see?

Toby there is something strange going on with the automation in NI Kore 2 for the Matrix. I can learn knobs but only one way - i.e. if I turn the knob on Matrix with my mouse it turns it in the Kore interface too, but if I turn it using the Kore controller, the knob in Matrix stays still (although it does affect the sound). This is using host automation, not midi learn.
