if you have Reaktor, there are a ton in the user library.

This topic seems slightly ridiculous. Kontakt is a great sampler. If you don't need all the features, don't use them.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

I suppose that your choice depends on your needs and goals. If you want to be able to buy and use third party libraries then your best bets are probably Kontakt, Machfive, Halion 5, and possibly the newish Phalanx instrument from Veneance Sound. If you want to do live sampling in software then I would look at Geist; there are probably others outside my knowledge range. If you want to roll your own instrument or use one of many user library ensembles then there is Reaktor. If you want something more experimental but also powerful there is Alchemy and probably Halion 5 and Machfive belong here now due to the other layering and granular capabilities of each.
There are also the other smaller but possibly useful instruments like the New Sonic Arts one that was mentioned.

You're right but it's also about the workflow and how quickly you can get results. Something like Ableton's Live's simpler is so easy and quick to use that I use it very often instead of Kontakt - that I also own. Kontakt is more for big multisampeld libraries when you need them. But sometimes you just need to load a single note bass sound and play with it instantly.deastman wrote:This topic seems slightly ridiculous. Kontakt is a great sampler. Would be great if there was sampler like Ableton Live's simpler made for other hosts ... Phalanx is also very good and the workflow is great.
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

If I was still using Logic, I'd get Nuance in a heartbeat. But indeed, Live's sampler is great, so there really isn't a need for me now.
As an oddball option, Battery has a fast workflow, you don't have to use it as a drum sampler.
Oh and in the drum sampler category, Elecktroid is nice as well, but rather simple and AU only.
