... Serums fast changeable soundstructure! i demo it atm and even as someone who has not much of a plan about sound design it can make some really WICKED filtered and modulated sounds you can use in many genres (i dont like this typical crap dubstep sound or what you call it? EDM? whoch sounds like all nexus xps....) but i like lush electro house, psytrance etc. in the techno/trance genre or industrial ebm.
but i find that Serum needs a bit long time to change presets and it doesnt seem to be cheap!

Spire seems to be also very nice but the GUI is small and dont like the layout somehow, especially the modulation clicking, but as i said the sound is really nice but i think compared with Serum? Serum is the winner? more options afaik.

Hive, what shall i say, i like Zebra2, i LOVE DIVA! i have sylenth1 and Hive will get more features im sure of it and more waveforms so you will have more sound variations than sylenth1, even urs showed some wavepics i dunno what sylenth1 does but i hear a difference? it still sounds more gritty to me what i like, i dunno if hive is a good addition for the above mentioned genres i do when you got zebra2 and sylenth1, but hmmm i got a $25 voucher and it's u-he :D

help me!

im not one of the EDM kiddies which seem to be a trend in the scene? what is exactly EDM music? can you post 1-2 examples?

You said you like Zebra, but you didn't say actually you have it. I say get Zebra instead of the others as you already have Sylenth1.

If you have a fast PC or Mac, you should also definitely try Diversion.

Get either Spire or Serum... or both. Ideally, you could use Serum for the primary synth parts, and Spire, Zebra, Sylenth for the additional ones (they use less CPU).

Another vote here for Zebra!

Good sound demo of the sonic versatility of Zebra for dance style sounds.

Generally speaking, all those genres you mentioned fall under EDM, electronic dance music. Nothing wrong with that at all.

I think of Serum as the next gen Wavetable synth, a logical progression from Massive. Since you can make your own wavetables and load your own noise samples it's scope is pretty much unlimited. If you convert a virus Hypersaw it sounds very much like the Virus Hypersaw, or a Massive wavetable and it will sound like that Massive wavetable. Cons with Serum are it can be a drain on resources. Having said that, the latest versions are much more efficient than the earlier releases.

Spire is a very good all rounder, with a lot of nice options, but it's wavetables are sorely lacking in quality and it's FM sounds pretty bad. I like it a lot for trance though.

HIVE is a bit of an X factor. It's not actually 1.0 yet and we don't know what U-he has planned for it. That's just for the 1.0 release, no telling what will happen in the future with 1.5, 2.0 etc. As it is now though it is an excellent VA synth with 3 filters, one of them is particularly angry sounding. Coupled with the distortion module in the effects you can get some very cool sounds that go beyond typical VA waveforms.

All three are excellent choices. HIVE has my favorite VA vibe with it's filters and VA waveforms. Serum offers huge scope for complex digital sounds.

Can't go wrong with either, and I couldn't decide which one to get either if i had the money. I'd narrow it down to spire or serum but thats as far I could go. Flip a Coin!!

(i dont like this typical crap dubstep sound or what you call it? EDM? whoch sounds like all nexus xps....) but i like lush electro house, psytrance etc. in the techno/trance genre or industrial ebm.

If I were you I would try Tone2 Electra2 (excellent product). Now it's even "1x2" (or whatever they call it), you buy one synth and get another one for free. Tone2 synths are all quite good and very light on CPU.

Get them all or the GAS will keep you in a cycle of sleepless nights wrestling over the ones you didn't.
:hihi:

Of those, I'd get Serum and Hive... Spire is okay, but it is really heavy on the CPU (without feeling like I am getting something for it) Serum uses lots of CPU also, but you are getting something interesting for it.

I agree ... Nemesis is another gem from Tone2.

Definitely at least use that gift voucher while you can. Can't go wrong with u-he stuff. I'd probably get Zebra first, but Hive would be a quick second.

a lot of thanks for the replies even on XMAS :D

so for my Industrial/EBM i use mostly Sylenth1 i have to admit cause of all the powerful saws etc. but i couldnt get a sound like this at 0:50 secs:

the rest sounds pretty SAWish with heavy detune etc.

i have Zebra but it is very complex for me, cause i also look for a nice vst for this type of tech/house music check at 2:00 mins:

or stuff like this

If you have Zebra, i suggest you learn how to use it.

If you want to buy something for the presets, then buy Nexus or something.
