i don't get it. now you have both fl and battery, surely you can put some time into working it out for yourselfKalamata Kid wrote:The help I need is stated in the OP. If you can please offer your comments about that issue.

Not sure if I'm missing something here, feels like I do. Reading your intended way of working I would default to Sonar's matrix view and use the built in support in track view for clips when that's easier and possibly at last stage of composition. I wouldn't have given additional tools or subhosting a first thought even. I'm sure the other daws have similar possibilities but as I don't have them I can't comment. I do have komplete but I wouldn't have used Battery for something like this probably.

Just out of interest - which features are you missing in Cubase that led to the decision to drop it?

For years I have totally neglected to use any drum samplers/step sequencers. Somehow I assumed that FL Studio and Battery as a VST in a DAW were the best. It seems that there are other excellent step sequencers available. In my current position I would not be able to distinguish which is better and which features will be helpful to my way of making music. I would have to learn all of them to decide. Someone has travelled this path before me and can shed some light my way and save me loads of time.
I had hoped that the answer would be as simple as what is the best wavetable synth. Serum by most accounts. But my question is closer to which is the best DAW. Yes, I was hoping for an avoid X as it is missing this feature and get Y because it can do this. Oh well such is life.
The responses by foosnark, sjm, ELECTRONIC FREAK and to some degree crimsonwarlock who may have traveled this road and perhaps make similar music have cast their vote for FL Studio. So for the time being FL Studio is the one I should use and put Battery at the bottom of the list.
beltrom, you now have introduced Sonar into the equation. It looks great and is totally integrated in the workflow like FL Studio. I had briefly checked it out and did not seem to have as many features of FL Studio. Let me know if I overlooked something. I had thought of using as FL Studio as a VSTi in Sonar as both have a strong multi-touch integration and Sonar also has ARA. From all the contenders Sonar is the least desirable to me. I will however further look into the capabilities of Sonar.
I know it is said not to wait for features to be implemented and I generally agree. They say go to war with the weapons you have well let me make music with what I have or will get shortly.

I wasn't really trying to do that, but it's the only DAW I know real well, and I noticed you had it. If you or others say that other daws do it better I'm totally fine with that, I have no stock in Gibson. I just wanted to point out that with any given daw I wouldn't go to subhosting or something like Battery for doing what you were planning to do. To me it would feel like a more complicated workflow with less possibilities.Kalamata Kid wrote:beltrom, you now have introduced Sonar into the equation.
By the way - I love Battery and know it's extremely powerful.

Glad you replied as you did. I had asked for other possibilities so glad you did so. Having built-in integration of all possibilities a DAW can do is the way to go for the sake of workflow. The exception would be if someone came up and stated that Battery is superior for the following reasons. That will make me give it one more lookover.beltrom wrote:I wasn't really trying to do that, but it's the only DAW I know real well, and I noticed you had it. I have a sense of relief as I am very close to deciding in favor of FL Studio. This decision will save me a lot of time.
Thanks to all for participating.

Doesn't make sense Digital Performer VS Florida Studio.

FL Studio vs. Battery vs. Gojira! (Gojira wins.)
But... doesn't FL come with at least one drum synthesizer included? You mentioned you are doing "ambient" and a drum synth (or multiple drum synths) might be easier to adapt to your style than something like Battery, whose drum set are all pretty hard-oriented. FL Studio also comes with Directwave, which is an OK "point and shoot" sampler, so you can load any percussion samples you want.
I am not an FL user but I use Directwave, and I use Battery 4, which is OK for what it is, but drum sample playback machines are not top of my list as far as plug-ins go.
