I had not opened my RapidComposer v2.73 (x64) for several weeks, and in the meantime I upgraded my audio interface to RME Fireface UCX.
Everything has been running fine on my Windows 8.1 PC, in which I use Cubase Pro 8.0.
I can also hear audio perfectly with VLC Media Player.
However, when I opened RC today, I got the above error message.
Under Settings/Audio I have:
Audio API: ASIO
Audio Device: ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Driver (Since this does not seem right, I try to choose ASIO Fireface USB, and I get the same error message again. If I go back to the previous, also.)
I am lost. Can anyone suggest what I should do or try, please?

Impatient as I am, I kept on reading past posts and decided to upgrade to beta v2.8b14 (x64).
Although it started as "Audio Disabled" under Audio API, once I chose ASIO everything went well and I got sound from the Test Audio.
So now I am off to play with RC, or, should I say, keep on trying to learn it!

Yes, this happens sometimes, that after an error RC won't be able to set another audio interface. If you hold down the Alt key, no audio device will be set, and you can set it manually. But I am happy that the problem is solved now
