Now Hive is here, is it RIP Sylenth?

Besides, one of the most appealing aspects of technology is the thing that is right around the corner.
It's actually very good that people are interested in buying newer & better designs. We end up with a very high quality selection, like we have now.
I do share in the frustration of extremely good software being overlooked because it's old. Good software shouldn't have such a short shelf life. But that can be fixed by
1) bringing out a stable, complete release from day one.
2) updating it every now and again with some small changes just so people know the dev is still invested in it.

I wonder what folks think of my using a Yamaha PSS-470 and a Casio MT-400V in most of my tracksAiynzahev wrote:Many modern producers that I've seen stick with what works for them. Many don't update to the latest DAW version for example or use pretty old vst effects.
Absolutely. I'm just being grumpy sometimes... I guess I do have a chip on my shoulder about the difference between amassing huge amounts of vsti's - then doing exhaustive 'comparisons', 'tests' and whatnot - and actually making musicAiynzahev wrote:Some people are enthusiasts about the whole thing generally, music or not. Oh it's absolutely tedious. Occasionally though it's informative. This forum is pretty much the only place you'll find people who examine these things with such scrutiny. Consequently you're able to learn things here that you simply wouldn't know otherwise. Especially when it comes to defects.do_androids_dream wrote:Absolutely. I'm just being grumpy sometimes... Over on GS there are people who can tell you everything about capacitors and transformers. People want to know what they paying for with their hardware so there is a demand for that information.
Here on KVR we tend to deal with software. It's a new area relatively speaking, with a lot of competing products with all kinds of marketing and buzz words, so naturally we want to peek under the hood too and found out whats going on.
I have learned a lot about vst's from all the nit picking. Especially EQ's and Compressors.

0dfb is essential if you want to emulate analog filters with high resonance and/or quick envelopes. If those aren't on the cards, I see no need for them, it's more down to the tone of the filter and your own preferences.chk071 wrote:There are excellent non 0dfb filters. That said, Corona offers a choice between normal and 0dfb filters, and in most cases, I prefer the 0dfb setting. It just sounds more "solid" and "present". Whether that is particular to this particular implimentation of filters is not known by me

Here are 2 patches. A completely "inappropriate" synth used for them (Hive), but that is part of the enjoyment of programming it:
First one is a hybrid flute-cello-sax depending on where the modwheel is and which octave you're in:
https://soundcloud.com/gaping_hole/hive ... loax-patch
Second one is water/rain/storm FX. Play the water with one hand while striking thunder with the other (Sometimes this patch does not load correctly and just creates washes...frustrating.)
https://soundcloud.com/gaping_hole/hive ... tch-design
Here is the download folder:

Can we all just blame Urs anyway? Might put an end to the speculation at least.Numanoid wrote:So you reckon it was u-he that killed off Camel Audio?ragout wrote:More like: RIP Alchemy 2...
