FYI, it doesn't look like the manual has been updated for 2.14.
And FWIW, I also don't want to have to check for updates on separate KVR forums or websites for every individual developer whose stuff I have. That's just not practical. A mailing list announcement for existing customers is much better for me, and I bet for many people, providing you can opt out. There's already an option for that in the user profile area, which seems to imply that there once was a plan to mail out announcements. Ideally, product updates for existing customers would be controllable separately from sales and other ads, but that's not hugely important unless there are tons of ads.
