CES: Announcing iRig 2

The sequel to the most popular mobile guitar interface

Image

Announcing iRig 2, the sequel to our groundbreaking and best-selling iRig guitar interface. iRig 2 builds on the design that made its predecessor so popular. It pairs great sound and streamlined convenience with new updated features like versatile input gain control, a ¼” amplifier output jack and Android compatibility. iRig 2 makes for a versatile tool that’s perfect for practice sessions, live performances, jamming with friends, recording and more.

Now everyone can plug in their guitar or bass to enjoy killer tone on their iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or Android device — with the release of iRig 2, the world’s most popular guitar interface is better than ever before.

Powerful performance
The biggest update that iRig 2 brings is its new ¼” amplifier output. This augments its 1/8” headphone output by allowing musicians to use iRig 2 and their mobile device along with their favorite amplifier, without the use of an adaptor. This opens up a whole world of opportunities when paired with AmpliTube, IK's powerful guitar and bass multi-effects processor. iRig 2 now lets musicians easily use AmpliTube’s vast library of meticulously modeled virtual stompbox effects, amplifiers and other gear as a part of their physical rig.

iRig 2’s added switch allows dual-mode operation: FX lets musicians send to the Amp ¼” output a processed signal from apps like AmpliTube. THRU sends a clean signal, letting musicians use their mobile device as a tuner, recorder or other utility, while using their classic analog rig keeping the pureness of a 100% analog signal path.

Made for both practice and performance, iRig 2 comes with a removable support that together with a velrco strip allow easily mounting iRig 2 on any mic or music stand, making iRig 2 perfectly at home on live performances as well.

Plug and play simplicity on every device
iRig 2 has been made to be compatible with the widest range of instruments and mobile devices possible. Its built-in universal 1/8" TRRS output connector provides a true plug-and-play experience on iPhone, iPod touch, Mac and Android. Likewise, its 1/4" instrument input works with any guitar, bass or line-level instrument. To ensure the best sound quality, iRig 2 comes with an input gain thumbwheel that allows musicians to dial in the perfect setting for their setup — iRig 2 works just as well when its connecting a wailing 3 humbucker electric guitar to a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 as it does a jazzy archtop or mellow electric piano to an iPhone 6.

Killer guitar tone on Android
iRig 2 is now widely compatible with Android smartphones and tablets. Its 1/8” output connector is compatible with many popular Android devices produced by manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC and more — any device with 1/8” input that supports the CTIA/AHJ wiring standard works with iRig 2.

Additionally, users with Android devices that support Samsung Professional Audio can enjoy AmpliTube for Android, a special version of the popular multi-effects processor that brings a full spread of meticulously modeled virtual gear to the Android platform.

A full suite of apps
iRig 2 is ready to go right out of the box. It comes with a powerful cross-platform suite of apps and software that includes free versions of AmpliTube for iOS, Android and Mac/PC. And while iRig 2 is the ideal companion to AmpliTube, it also works with any other recording, processing, tuning or music app.

Pricing and availability
The new iRig 2 interface will be available in Q1 2015 via the IK Online Store and select music and consumer electronics retailers worldwide for $39.99/€29.99 (excl. taxes).

Looks like a step backwards to me. Audio via the Lightning/30 pin connector is MUCH cleaner.

The original iRig is still a top-selling interface - if not THE top interface with millions sold - at music retailers (and in general in the market) and this is a step forward for it. The price point of iRig HD and iRig PRO (the first to offer native Lightning interface) and other similar offerings is much higher than this.

wait for hd 2. i have the hd, and it is a good bit of kit

As stated above, yes. [edit referenced typo in another thread, oops] We're no slouch, iRig hit the mobile music creation industry hard and has continued to be a top seller in the market. Hence, iRig 2 with improvements and a great price point. We do have a good handle on what we're doing.

Huh. Not likely.

Not just likely, but true. We are have had iRig displayed prominently in thousands of retail locations for YEARS. I know you don't like us, but we're successful whether you like it or not. Sorry about that, there's really nothing I can do to change the fact that we've sold millions of iRigs and you choose not to believe it.

Every place on the Internet I've seen this product announced, the nearly unanimous response has been "headphone jack? No thanks". I've also read probably a half dozen responses from people who bought the first version, found the sound quality to be poor, and stuck it in a drawer.
Lotsa luck IK...

Thanks, the original wouldn't have continued to be a strong seller without much more of the opposite experience. We've listened to the many that have provided their input and given them exactly what they wanted for the new version (we've been told this countless times since the announcement by users - I'm not seeing the alleged "nearly unanimous response" you mention, but perhaps they are the audience that clearly needs iRig HD or iRig PRO and expected them at $39.99). This, like iRig, is the perfect solution at the perfect price for many. We've been going strong at thisfor a long time, we don't just make decisions in the dark :) Thanks for the vote of confidence, though.

For those that need higher fidelity, we have two products that suit that need: iRig HD and iRig PRO.

And thanks for the last part but we've been around long enough that we don't need to run on luck. We run on strong experience and real data.

Also, half a dozen out of millions ain't bad ;)

Edit to add:

"I had the original iRig and the HD is FAR BETTER... Im still gonna get this new one though..."

"1/4 amp output....pair this with the BlueBoard and a nice stack and you just turned it up to 11.....Most Excellent job IK..."

"I love my iRig but this takes it to another level, love the dual switch saves messing about on my phone, and the 1/4" output is a game changer!!! Well done looks superb!"

"Perfect device to travel"

"Oh the adjustable gain on this is a tremendous idea. Nice improvement on what was already pretty perfect."

"Gain control and 1/4" out. Looks like y'all listened to us"

"As one of the 1st people in the UK with an original iRig for me the single most useful new feature is the 1/4 inch output! A solid connection to an amp - turns the iRig2 into a proper live option! Well done"

There's just a "bakers half dozen" that do think we listened and gave them something they want or asked for...

Second day of CES and iPhone Life Magazine had this for us, too:

I waste a lot of time on the Internet, but not THAT much- it's possible that I have not read every single purchaser's opinion ;-)

So much sad from this - because I don't have to read them all but I have to read as many as possible. Don't be too jealous of me because I have that glorious task, ha :phones: :P <there's no stock emoticon jumping off of a cliff>

It does not, it is a mono interface (with a combo 1/4"/XLR input jack). Details are at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/irigpro
