Don't some people have it backwards, wasn't that law supposed to make it harder for the bigger companies, exempt under 80k businesses? I don't understand it, but agree we need real info not speculations.

This sucks more than anything has sucked before.
OTOH...maybe this is some super preemptive April Fools marketing strategy that will make sense when the new Bactrian logo replaces the old Dromedary.
If this was because of the new EU tax-any-electron-that-moves protocol, wouldn't they want to tell their story out loud on the net, not muttered with mopish tones in dark, dank Scottish pubs with the distant wailing and gnashing of KVRian posterdrones bleeping in the background?

Maybe you wake up next week and see U-He will close, or Sylenth1, or Synthmaster or Rob Papen or Linplug ...-- these are "old" enough too. ...
I think it's time to think on backup strategies.
Everyone knows it's safer when you backup to multiple forms, e.g.:
- USB drive
- ?Google Drive
- BlueRay Disc
- Windows backup (if you use windows)
- ....
- ....
- ????
I think If you use windows, maybe you should backup mac installers for the future, who knows - you may change OS in the future

Yeah, this is one of the best developers out there closing shop. Alchemy is one of the best vsti's out there. Really big loss to the producer's world.
Would asking to release whatever they got done on alchemy 2, which sounds almost complete (just making sounds), be rude at all?

And I was almost grabing a license for the second time these days ad I sold mine regretting it at the beginning of the last year, about.
However speculation is pointless.
A kind requests, maybe collective, to the customers service asking, if they want to answer, about why and what it will be, besides how to deal with libraries and such.
Maybe acquired by another company - so Alchemy 2 will see the light hopefully soon....maybe just shutting down instead and going all together to its sad funeral...maybe it will go free, maybe the will sell the codes to another company, maybe maybe maybe.
Just a bit disappointing the silence and the collective bye bye That's all folks..
mmmm...

No. Really, chill the heck out and get a grip: only a handful of the people using cracked software are willing to actually buy that software eventually. In short, they were not going to buy that product anyway so they were not potential clients in the first place.Codestation wrote: No. I will not chill out. I stand by my thoughts on the subject. On the other hand, Alchemy was smart enough to offer a fully functional player instead of the regular demo which comes packed with plenty of sounds (especially if you add the CM add-on), so there was no actual need for a cracked version of Alchemy to get access to that kind of sound.
Moreover, piracy is affecting pretty much all software creators, but you don't see most of them going out of business. Sure, the small independent devs are likely to get a big hit if their stuff gets leaked (see MaxSynths), but Camel Audio is a top dog in the music plugin world so to me it seems unlikely they're going under because someone has pirated some older versions of their plugins.
The VAT issue is most likely the main cause. I was not aware of it although I am living in EU ('cause that's how EU works - they take all sorts of controversial and reckless decisions and ppl find out when it's already too late).
All that aside, it is indeed very shocking...and sad. CA is (was?) elite.

the way I read it is those smaller companies are no longer exempt with the new law. So bad for the small guys.

you are grossly underestimating the effect piracy has on businesses.idfpower wrote:No. Really, chill the heck out and get a grip: only a handful of the people using cracked software are willing to actually buy that software eventually. I'm assuming that Alchemy two will be releases under a different name/flag at some point in the future.
governments are inclined to do stupid things and stick by them. they have a history of it.

Don't want to go off too much on a tangent, but the opening lines were it was created to curtail bigger companies like google etc, so then it also curtails smaller companies, irony much, in order to hurt the bigger guys (to help the little ones) you have to hurt the little ones in the process?? Okay, that's enough of me talking about something I know nothing aboutATS wrote:mysticvibes wrote:Don't some people have it backwards, wasn't that law supposed to make it harder for the bigger companies, exempt under 80k businesses? I am reasonably up to speed on the new EU VAT regulations and I find it hard to believe that this is the issue.
Camel Audio were already registered for VAT in the UK as they will have had a turnover of over £81k.
https://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/camel-audio
Registering for VATMOSS would have made their EU VAT admin manageable.
Camel Audio were not akin to a small sound designer or plugin developer who sells a few dozen sound sets or plugins a year, and for whom the new regulations are way too onerous.

I agree with that, can't be the VAT issue here, more wild speculation won't help us though.lnikj wrote:I am reasonably up to speed on the new EU VAT regulations and I find it hard to believe that this is the issue.
