Dear God, I certainly hope not.lnikj wrote: If the IP is to be sold, please don't let Izotope buy it.

Yeah, until whoever bought the rights to the plugin releases some info or big release.tonkatodd wrote:With such a strong user base it just seems so strange it's happened so abruptly. Surely if there was a tragedy of some kind we would know. Maybe the IP has been sold like people are speculating and they can't say anything more yet?EvilDragon wrote:Don't you think a more in-depth statement would have been a better way to handle this situation, whatever it is? Well, me too, but to speculate on someone's death when a company is being sold or goes out of business is a bit over the top IMHO. But KVR needs drama, so go ahead.ATS wrote:Sampleconstruct wrote:Yeah, that was about the wildest speculation so far.Hunter wrote:Just to end the wilder examples of speculation here, Ben has not died.

Absolutely and it was now slowly going into the finish line. And now... this happen, out of the blue.Luftrum wrote:Agree, and +1000 to that!bmanic wrote:Yes. I'm probably not allowed to say much but I can confirm that Alchemy 2 was extremely promising.mysticvibes wrote:Is this from first hand experience?Alchemy 2 was coming along very nicely
Really weird, they have a very good product catalogue, great image and user/fan base, and with Alchemy v2 a big new major product coming. I see no reason for this shutting down
Must be something besides their products, sales, upcoming things.... like maybe internal issues or the "nice" new EU VAT MOSS

Phew.
Still, a better official statement would have gone a long way. I don't think the new VAT rules are the reason.

I said "should be illegale", I know that it happens that customers are left out in the cold when the developer of their equipment or software go out of business. What I'm suggesting that some safeguards should be in place to ensure that in that dire situation there is some way to salvage the platform so that it continues to be useful as long as possible. As long as possible implies that software would be updated to follow improved hardware and OS developments. One solution would be to make it open source so it could be improved upon is one solution, but a "keep it safe" that was industry and user funded with some economic backing would be a best case scenario, which would also increase the perceived value of a firms products, as it is now it seems software is just a disposable item.. A disposable item is perceived as being cheaper and less durable, less useful in the long run..beely wrote:No, you *actually* are selling the product as it exists then, with no promise of future compatibility or support. Users often infer such a promise, but legally there is not one, as outlined in the license terms with any software product.TwoToneshuzz wrote:As a developer of software plug ins your selling something with the promise of maintaining functionality, especielly from a sound designers/developer point of view, it's simply reprehensible..
Of course, a good company does support it's products and maintain them moving forward as it's good business to do so. But there is no legal obligation to users to update a product for any length of time. And sometimes, sh*t happens.
I know that a software will continue to work, but in the present state of Alchemy it was already looking rather long in the tooth, on the verge of a new update, it seems like such a shame that all that work goes to waste.. I'm think purely in practical terms here, In the present case a large user base has been hoping for an update of a relatively recent product for a while now, work as been done, now it all gets lost..

You're assuming someone has the authority to make an in-depth statement.EvilDragon wrote:Don't you think a more in-depth statement would have been a better way to handle this situation, whatever it is? This is just way too abrupt...
An idiot on Set Theory:

U-he bought Camel Audio. Ben will show up at NAMM with all the details!
Sure wish I had a Camel Audio shirt. The fact that Alchemy 2 was supposed to be very good and that the "horrible" has been ruled out AND they guys at Camel Audio are Top of the Top... I can only expect something awesome at NAMM this year.
