Hello all,

Today we have released a new maintenance update for Cubase Pro 8 and Cubase Artist 8.
This updates addresses various issues in regards to the new window handling on PC Windows systems, especially with plug-ins, which are set to “Always on Top”.

For more information please download the Version History document.
As always you can find the update on our downloads section.

Best regards,

The history doesn't include all fixes, but the "Always on Top bug" is fixed... yeah ;)

Yes, I have the same graphic bug... something for the next maintenance update

SB said in a forum post that the metronome issue wouldn't be fixed on the first update....and of course it wasn't. Would've been nice if it was because it drives me mad when I encounter it as it prevents from effectively starting to record from a non-exact bar position.

Hi Guillermo,

Has there been any discussion at the Steinberg factory on whether the Aero requirement will ever be changed?

If the answer is no, then absolutely fine. I'm not looking for a fight, just an update really.

Thanks

What is "Aero"? I've seen it referenced a couple of times, particularly with CPU resource management, but I'm at a loss.

So many plugins, so little time...

Berfab,

Aero is the swanky theme windows 7 operates under by default.
I, like many, are using the old classic WinXP theme instead.

Therefore I'm unable to install and use C8.

Thanks MM.

I use the default Win7 settings, so I guess that applies to me. But didn't I read elsewhere that there was a way to turn Aero off, and that doing so would dramatically increase efficiency? I've been meaning to try this, but I haven't seen confirmation that this would work. You've referred to it as the "Aero Requirement." Is Aero required to run C8? In which case we're stuck for now, no?

[edit: My earlier "note to self" about tweaking C8 was regarding turning off ASIO-guard and re-setting the Steinberg power options in the preferences---not Aero.]

Cheers

I've also seen it among optimizations for windows.

In xp it was enough to turn off some acceleration, like shadow behind menues and stuff. Then some crackles disappeared when opening menus.

All visual styles need not be turned off. The Classic look was really ugly.

But run all default in W7.

Seems weird that you need it on in C8, isn't that only for certain transparent looks to work or something?

Post

I'm not sure what impact it has on efficiency.

It's just a personal preference for me as I prefer the aesthetics of the classic theme.

And why it's necessary for C8? Only Steinberg know this really...

Afaik Aero is the basic graphic user interface also on Windows 8 but without Aero Glass etc. but Aero Shake and Aero Peek is still there. Yes, this is using accelerated graphic routines and because Cubase is using owner drawn GUI elements it makes sense that Aero is required.
Without a supported graphic card or with disabled Aero this stuff is IMO emulated by software but with poor performance.

Ok understood.

The ideal solution would be an option to turn these enhancements off, albeit at the cost of reduced efficiency.

There are a bunch of visual enhancement options to turn off in Windows at least - without turning off Aero in whole.

True, but I still find it ghastly.
Everything is HUGE!!!! Even at their smallest settings.
