Alternatively, perhaps a deal was done to secure the future of Alchemy - maybe it has been sold to another company, and *will* continue as "Alchemy" with Ben as the chief product developer, but now with additional resources that Camel didn't have access to before, resulting in a better product roadmap and future?
This also happens and is a possible scenario... we may yet see Alchemy 2...

Yes this is true, and not a slight against u-he.subsynq wrote:don't think that's the case but why? u-he makes quality software...Ben H wrote:I would not hope for this at all.
But their products just don't gel with me.
I guess I am just not in their target audience/market.
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

it does seem truly out of character, so i am hoping that it is nothing badbmanic wrote:I really seriously hope nobody is hurt. This kind of sudden shutdown is not the style of the awesome guys at Camel Audio. I really truly fear that something bad has happened.

A major shock! I doubt its VAT, I doubt its piracy (however damaging both are!). More like a something unforeseeable.
A bit more information would of been nice but they are not obliged to tell us anything.

I had collected almost all of the libraries but had to remove it since it took forever to load. Now out of sentimentality I'm going to only use Alchemy until I hear some good news. The long load time will serve as my moment of silence for all things Camel.

Maybe NI bought them, and they are going to bundle Alchemy 2 with Komplete 11.

(snigger) Maybe to become some Apple Exs24 upgrade.beely wrote:Some of us remember what happened when Apple bought Redmatica - there are some similarities here, the suddenness, the lack of any announcement from the company that had been sold, the rush to download and backup your software, the silence of the people involved who are normally fairly active online...
It seems a weird time to sell when a significant new upgrade to the flagship product was imminent (realistically, sometime this year) but maybe they got an offer that was too good to refuse - people don't sell the businesses they've started and sweat blood for for years lightly.... *if* that is what has happened.
I'd rule out personal tragedy - if something like that had happened, the company wouldn't update it's website and shutdown operations like that, it would continue to trade (at least for a while) and someone would make a personal statement about what happened. The fact that no one has said anything indicates to me a legal lack of ability to do so. I'm sure we'll know more over the next few weeks.
In the case of Redmatica, all the products went away for good, so if something like that happens, it's possible that no more development or updates will happen, and Alchemy 2 will remain for most vapourware, some of it's IP may well go into future products from another company, as will no doubt the developers skills and efforts. I think it's unlikely that Alchemy 2 will come out as some rebadged product from another company, but hey, no one has any real info at this stage and anyone in a position to know isn't talking (or allowed to talk about it) so... speculate away... :shrugs:

if it were either of these, then i am sure they would have explained it as such, especially to those who were working with them on development for A2faun2500 wrote:A major shock! I doubt its VAT, I doubt its piracy (however damaging both are!). More like a something unforeseeable.
as it's so out of character for them, i can only imagine that it is forced silence i.e takeover. i truly believe they are all sitting somewhere, frustrated that they can't tell their loyal user-base, and sound-designers, what is really happening
