Are you kidding me? After what they did when they bought EA's intellectual property, bastardized it, f*cked it up and then ran the company into the ground through arguments and infighting?

Elemental Audio was such a great company with great products. They sold to RND, and it was an unmitigated disaster...

I'm in the same boat as you - shocked to say the least! But speculation have almost reached a point of hysteria now and since this whole deal is not the MO of Camel at all - I think it smells legal issues. Probably at the point where contracts are being signed and have to be set legally on both parts.

The EU tax thing is insane for sure - but I doubt it's the case. I smell a company buying up Alchemy. Probably not Apple. Probably not a coincidence this happens this close to NAMM. Probably the Camels cannot say a word until the deal is settled.

There's always choice, and yes, I have been bitten by this. You can't both move forward and stay behind. If you get a machine in five years time, it *probably* won't be able to run Mavericks. If this is important to you, keep your old machine, or replace it with an old machine, and stay where you are.

You can't have it both ways and regardless of any individual software developer, if you have enough products and spend enough time, sooner or later you will get issues with old, dead, legacy and abandoned software. We deal with it, and move it...

I have old songs that require hardware synths I no longer have, either. It's not the end of the world...

Can't even download my stuff right now. ''The following products failed to completely download: every f***ing thing in your account.'' Will try again later when the hysteria has abated. :)

Just because a company has a relatively strong perceived value doesn't mean it has the cash flow to afford extra staff or paying the costs of significantly more man hours to achieve compliance in 29 EU member states. It is wrong to assume that simply because a small firm is VAT registered that the onerous nature of this legislation is somehow made easier.
The question was not whether or not it would have costs for a business of that size/turnover/net worth, but whether it was likely to cause a business of that size/turnover/net worth to completely give up trading overnight, especially when they already have some of the infrastructure required for VAT handling and associated accounting procedures.

Camel's net worth at Companies House (not perceived value) was just under £500K a few months ago. Im not saying that makes it 'easier' fot them to deal with MOSS (although I am saying its easier for them than the very small-scale 'home' operation making a few hundred quid a year selling knitting patterns or whatever), Im saying that its not a sensible assumption that they suddenly folded because they couldnt afford to implement MOSS.

I just got the news and tried to go back up the mobile player from the app store. I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but Camel has been ripped from the app store. This screams of something drastic. My prayers that it's not a medical issue, but the other possibility (this is rumor!) is that it is very similar to emagic and many others that were gobbled up by apple. Not a fact of any kind, just saying it's very similar and I could see the camel technology showing up in Logic. Hoping for the best for all involved, that's all I can say. This thread is moving faster than I can at this point.

I keep thinking NI, but Alchemy doesnt really fit into a nice gap in the Komplete range, and might even harm Kontakt sales.

i'd have to +1 to 'Acquired by DAW'

while the speculation is fun, I hope the end result is that existing customers get some new access to what they currently own and it doesnt just die altogether..

Compyfox wrote:Even if they signed a NDA - this is totally unlike Camel Audio indeed.
NDAs are specifically meant to make sure people don't do what comes natural to them (like openly sharing information). With how everyone perceives CA as a company that would not do what is currently happening, I would say that there is indeed an NDA in action here.... which makes a buy-out the logical assumption. Also, CA didn't vanish completely in one day, the grace-period for getting user access to your purchased items for several months to come also points to 'specific agreements' being in place and 'some deal' has been made.
