Maybe he is busy trying to find a new job?

If you mean buy it and outsource development to a different company, that would never work. This kind of work is particular and articulate and outsourcing development of something big like this is generally unfeasible.

Indeed, it would be the dawn of Applchemy :hihi:

That is if 2.0 ever sees the light of day of course :(
At no point ever did Camel Audio say Alchemy 2 was right around the bend. They refused to share details until it was ready so as to avoid false promises and disappointment. In the case you mentioned above the hypothetical person would be at their own fault.
When a product is in production that long its either in development hell or right around the bend.
Ridiculous assumption. Pretty sure much of the team had other obligations to attend to besides just Alchemy 2. Even if they did, these things can take a while. Especially to do well, or to get the ball rolling. This would be a foolish assumption on the users behalf.

If they all died in a plane crash, for goodness sake, then who would be winding the business up and editing the website and shutting down social media..? Makes no sense... This is deliberate, and quick, and gagged, which is *exactly* how these buyouts work.

Redmatica basically did exactly the same thing when they were bought. Except without the 6 months of support/downloads - we got a quick license update so the software would work with a new serial number, rather than activation, and 2 weeks to download the new version or your software couldn't be activated and used anymore. And then silence, and a dead website.

if they came here and posted, then all they would get is 400 people asking them for more info, and the rest wishing them well - which doesn't really achieve much. And besides, it wouldn't be their call to make...

Camel Audio seems like the exact type of company that would be affected most by this...
Yep.

The company is *Apple*. Not "Mac". "Mac" cannot buy anything, short of accidentally triggering your Amazon 1-click buy-it-now button.

*If* Apple have bought them, it would be an end to Alchemy for sure. I think it's unlikely, but it happened with Redmatica, so who knows..? :shrugs:
A mac computer isn't synonymous with apple :dog: Really, getting so politically correct in a music production forum? :help:

Okay, here's the deal, legally, on the "not being able to talk about it" and I'll correlate this to another company which had the same issue. There was an action that they had taken with one of their products that had everybody in a tizzy and their only response was "We cannot discuss this." Period.

Point is, there is nothing legally preventing CA, if this is a legal issue, from coming here and issuing a statement saying this...

"We cannot discuss the statement posted on the web site."

Since no statements as such are coming, you can be 99% sure that this is not a legal matter, such as another company buying CA.

That leaves only personal matters such as death, partnership disagreements, etc. that they just don't want to get into for whatever personal reason.

Point is, there is nothing legally that prevents a company from issuing a "no comment" statement. The fact that they made an initial statement about the discontinuing of the product at all is much more revealing than had they simply tacked onto the end of it...

"We're sorry but we can't comment further on this."

That they didn't do that and that they haven't come here or anywhere else for that matter with any kind of statement is beyond odd. In fact, it makes no sense for the silence.

As for my own speculation, I won't bother. I have my theories but they're all pointless. Until we hear something official, which we may never, this is all just blowing off steam.

For the record, I have the player, which I do use from time to time and have contemplated getting the full blown product.

I guess I can cross that one off my future purchases list.

Very, very odd indeed.

What happens to those users who have saved up pots of Camel Credit to pay for Alchemy v2 upgrade

Is it all now worthless? :(

Its very rare that a small company's project takes more than half a decade to complete and when it does it is usually a huge letdown. This isn't exclusive to soft synths by any means, I have seen this play out time and time again elsewhere. Camel doesn't seem like the type to let down, hence my assumption it was just around the bend.

Seems from bManiac's post earlier in the thread that he was working on presets for it. If that doesn't scream "around the bend" I don't know what does.

</wildspeculation>

When I say around the bend I mean within the next year, not the next day.

Thank you for purchasing our Water Sound Library. Together, we've raised over 30,000 GBP for FRANK Water in the first month alone! Needless to say, your contributions are going to an incredibly worthy cause, and will certainly benefit a lot of people.
