There is no reason to get snippy. In fact, I'm going to write to CA and get my answer.whyterabbyt wrote:Go on then. Lets see you prove your osmotically-acquired legals skills...wagtunes wrote:I know enough lawyers to know that with 100% certainty.
Let me put it this way. If I wrote to Camel Audio and asked them why they're closing down, I can almost guarantee that the reply email I get will say "We're sorry but we can't give out any further info."
In fact, I know enough legal loopholes that I could, at the very least, force them to respond with a "no comment".
(I'm hoping they're better than your logic.)

I love it when people use that word to turn 'an issue I dont fully understand' into 'something trivial that must be easy to achieve'.basslinemaster wrote:I really don't understand these developers doing this. Same thing perhaps?

What do you mean? There has already been a revelation that there have been funny lights over Edinburgh! Surely that is an adequate basis for speculation.cryophonik wrote: Alright, then I guess everybody can carry on with the baseless speculation.

No, nobody is exempt, that's precisely why the new law is so ridiculous and unfair.mysticvibes wrote:Don't some people have it backwards, wasn't that law supposed to make it harder for the bigger companies, exempt under 80k businesses? If they are actually shutting down, and not selling their IP to anybody else, would they release a free version of everything they've made, so it isn't lost forever? Or just offer it for sale to somebody else, with or without the source code? It's not as if people don't want to buy Alchemy any more, is it? Or will it be lost forever? (Is it protected by challenge/response? Once their servers go down, you wouldn't be able to install software you'd paid for, which sucks.)

Oh yeah, the thread will live on!!!Luftrum wrote: I don't know anything... it's just my own assumption (or maybe not) it's just that Camel Audio would never leave their business behind like that without quickly passing information on to their customers about the reason. That wouldn't be logical and not how the Camel's do stuff.

If they were selling their IP, wouldn't it be normal to continue normal sales of their software until the day of the IP sale, then officially announce the sale of the IP on their website, and explain which company would now own their IP, where to go to get support, etc? This is all very strange.jbuonacc wrote:somebody just posted this on the GS forum:
"I just pulled their accounts from Companies House, thinking they might have run into trouble. They had a reasonable amount of cash in the bank, although they were small enough to only have to file abbreviated accounts, which more or less ruled out that theory unless something really bad happened in the past nine months.
However, the SH01 form, which updates the information on who holds the shares was filed with today's date and is not yet available electronically. So, an IP sale seems likely, particularly as the circumstances are very similar to the Apple purchase of Redmatica's IP: so long guys, thanks for all the fish; here are some download links; use them before we switch off the server."

Nobody here knows.

But Mac users might be unable to use it after an OS X upgrade (or two, who knows).

About 34 pages of wild speculation posited as 'fact' or probable circumstance with pretty much zero facts to go on

Well, I logged into my account and created a support ticket as well as emailed them.
I'll let you know when I get some kind of reply, even if it's just "Sorry, we can't discuss the matter."
Of course they could totally ignore a customer email but that wouldn't be too cool unless of course, like I said, they just don't give a crap anymore.
My gut tells me that the silence will eventually be broken. This isn't just going to go quietly into the night.

Well it isn't. Things need to get regulated when the business is international, and countries have different tax laws. But as long as we don't know what happened here, this is pretty irrelevant.basslinemaster wrote:No, nobody is exempt, that's precisely why the new law is so ridiculous and unfair.mysticvibes wrote:Don't some people have it backwards, wasn't that law supposed to make it harder for the bigger companies, exempt under 80k businesses?
