This has been the prevailing thought since I read the first couple of posts.Teksonik wrote: That seems so out of character from what I've experienced from Camel Audio.
It seems that I don't have quite the imagination that some others here have. My initial reaction was that they had been hacked. Then I thought that maybe there has been some type of split amongst the major folk at Camel Audio and maybe that means that if there is to be any further development it will have to happen under a different name and at a different time. I dunno... mostly it just seems out of character.

I can see that trying to manipulate this bundle discount into a "sale" price is just malicious, and libelous considering the absolute way he has made these claims previously.lnikj wrote:That's its standard price. They had become so outdated and irrelevant that even massive discounts didn't get noticed? The sale happened whether you saw it or not.

BUT. does that make it more ethical then ? whether it was the usual discount rate or a seasonal one, that emphasis on "50% off!" is an enticement to purchase. And perhaps even spend more than you ordinarily might. And considering the expense involved, can you really say that listing and selling these bundles (others were 35% off), especially during the spendy holiday season, was an ethical non-dirtbag thing to do - and keep in mind that they must have known (assuming it is a business related closure) that they would be dropping support in a matter of months ? I'd be pissed. pi$$€d.

bundles are bundles for a reason. no one would buy them if they weren't offering a discount over buying each item individually. almost every developer who has bundles, mentions that "bundle is N% off!". it's not "enticement" or deceptive marketing, it's standard practice across not only the industry, but across just about any industry.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

assumption fail. you're basically saying 'they must have known they were going to cease operations in four months so this was duplicitous'.Daags wrote:BUT. does that make it more ethical then ? whether it was the usual discount rate or a seasonal one, that emphasis on "50% off!" is an enticement to purchase. when you stop excluding 'they didnt know they were going to cease operations in four months' as a potential premise, you'll be able to make a more logical conclusion about why a company selling things might have put some of their stuff on sale.

Let's also make the point (again) for the people with the "cynical cash grab" theories - Camel Audio were one of the most visibly ethical software developer companies out there in this community, regularly doing things for charities they believed in, donating money, creating products and donating sales - this is not a company full of cynical cash grabbers - as anyone who has had any dealings with them over time fully understands.
Good guys, who are in some kind of situation we don't have the facts about yet, and are unable, for whatever reason, to comment further at this time.

TonyVegas - do go and have a lie down, there's a good chap. Plenty more to discuss here other than this dead end tangent. The last thing we need is a thread lock, we're 3/4 of the way to 100...
