Needs repeated.
Long & McQuade shows no products as of this morning

Good point. I'm away, so, I can't check today, but yesterday I didn't.

That's the problem with your thought.

The software is no longer in existence. Pipeline has been shut off, it does not exist any more. What they are doing, instead of just saying "sorry suckers," they are giving people who already own a copy a chance to not loose it forever in case they thought they could always download it from the server. This does not mean it is in existence. Just like a hardware company not making new products. Just because they are still offering some long term support for the current product, does not mean any new ones will be made.

Only if you think your perceived entitlement to the software is the metric for the situation.
If I thought I was entitled to this, or any software for that matter, I wouldn't have spent over 10 grand on software. i would have just pirated it.

There is no entitlement here. I simply want to make a purchase and I am being told I can't even though the product itself is still in existence.

I am not in any way taking money out of the mouths of CA as they are no longer in business as sales have stopped. In fact, I am offering to give them money for something that I know in 7 months is going to be worthless.

How is that in any definition entitlement?
Also, it is only going to be worthless to consumers in 7 months due to lack of updates and support. If someone still owns the tech, it is still worth a good amount of money to them.

Is this confirmed by Camel Audio that they are out of business? Closing the online shop is IMO not the same... hmmm....

Obviously if it requires going to the Camel servers then it's not going to work - but if it was boxed product with a serial number, or pre-generated serials, as happens with other software, then sales would be presumably possible.
Jrrshop says for the Alchemy purchase:

"You will receive a free extra sound library automatically when you register your serial number with Camel Audio's support account."

Which suggests you get the serial number with purchase, so you should be good to go. I'd probably want to verify that with them first, pre-purchase to make sure (they might have stopped selling it, without taking it off the site yet).

That wasn't too much effort to figure out - so it *looks* like it might be possible to still get a license for a short term - same with the sound libraries - while the support site is still up. And that was just the first retailer I tried.

Is that all?... Modifing the top page, sending an email to music magazine, and done? Ok that's dissapointing. I thought they were more fair people.

and of course the fact that it mysteriously didnt become worthless in the 24 months since the last major update is irrelevant to the panic over that suddenly happening 6 months and one day from now.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the libraries when all is done and dusted.

If Apple has bought CA then we aren’t going to be seeing Alchemy 2. We might see some of Alchemy 2's technology implemented into a new sampler to replace the ageing EXS24, and possbily in some other places within Logic 11. Whatever happens, the sound libraries would not likely be compatible so it would be sad if they were not set free for Alchemy 1 users.

If its another company then we may or may not see something approaching the current design for Alchemy 2 for which the libaries are supposed to be compatible.

I would suspect though that it’s the technologies and wetware that is being bought here and that whatever use they are put to the libraries will be surplus to requirements. It would be great if they were set free (whether paid or given away).

Did you log in to the support site? There is no way to create a new account. You can only log in to an existing account. Even then, once you are in, I don't see a way to register a new serial number...

Ok, that would certainly change things if there is some online component and the user coldn't just plug their serial number into their own download/diskinstall - thanks for the info! No, I didn't try to register a new product...
