Camel Audio ceasing sales? [Update: CA acquired by Apple]

One disadvantage to having the personal serial rolled into the installer is now, should we lose the installer, we can't get it from anyone.

With the typical system of license key and installer one could find the installer anywhere and use their personal license key. Print a copy of the key and store it a safe place no problem. Here? Problem. Backup your installers indeed. Put them on DVD, thumb drive, hard drive, SD card, fire safe box, bank deposit box. :hihi:

Once you lose them, after 7 July, you're done with CA software. eeeep.

Keep the original 1.55 installer backed up. No one listens....
What?!? I don't have it! I "had" it on my account...

Burn to DVD and made a redundant copy just to be safe.

This. People need to get used to the fact that a five-year compatibility lifespan is the best they have a right to expect from software unless they're prepared to freeze the spec of their system. yes, some stuff will last longer, especially on Windows where, unlike Apple, MS actually put some effort into making sure of it, but operating systems and DAWs are a moving target and its a small, volatile, niche industry with no guarantees.

(Of course, the companies most likely to be able to keep compatibility going further down the line are the biggest ones, ie those the average KVR morlock is most likely to spend his time bitching about for being 'too expensive' etc etc)

Just so bummed about this...

With such an excellent product it just makes me wonder how and why this happened?

[EDIT]1 hopefully will not go this route... but it's getting a bit ridiculous now.

Never get mac 64bit... blah blah...

I always found alchemy useful, and the support was great too.

Who knows if I have the 1.55 installer on a thumb drive somewhere but I wonder what will happen after July 2015 and I get a new computer?

I guess the serial or (gulp) dongle would trump all that huh?

*Sigh*

Farewell Camel Audio. I will use your products as long as I can :(

And I was hoping to hop on the Alchemy train eventually. f**k.

So....should I now look towards getting Absynth when I have the money? It seems to be the next best thing.

dont be silly enough to lose them then. get a proper backup regime; minimum of two local copies and one offsite. google drive is 15Gb free or $2 a month for 100Gb, which is bugger-all if you genuinely care about losing stuff.

Software doesn't live forever.

We live in a fast paced world, technology can change on a daily basis. I am surprised that certain tools from like 5 years back still work on my rig. On the other hand, my 20+ year old hardware is still working without any bigger pulled tips/tricks.
Sure glad that my 1910 Gibson Mando is still compatible with 21st century string technology.

Some claim software is the invention of the devil. But, there's another deity that created the software credo:

The impermanence of all things.

Buddha invented software! :o
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

I need to login and start backing everything up :(

Why does it feel like a funeral? Sigh...

Omnisphere, anyone?

I have quite a few real old bits of software working on a few archived computers here. And, yes, they still work.

Yes indeed at least one offsite.. hence why I said to save them on multiple media in multiple locations!

@backing up: I have an external drive I keep around for backup to. In fact, that will be a chore tonight...checking that things are in order. I used to keep DVD's but that is really a chore. So what if this drive fails? I guess I'll be in some trouble.

Has this become a ThisPlugIn thread? :hihi:

Reaktor comes with a stable of great user library ensembles, of wide variety.
Might be your last purchase, considering new/improved/variations-of ensembles
arrive quite often.
Cheers
