"Fair enough, but a piece of hardware has a chance of lasting a lifetime. Software Is immediately doomed the moment development and/or support stops."
I've got a studio full of hardware that never gets used because it just doesn't interface well with the current technology. Technically, it all still works, but it doesn't work with anything else--at least not easily.
The same could be said for software. If I keep the original PC that I install it on running, the software will always work. It just won't work with the newer technologies that inevitably come along.
Cheers

Linux/wine can help keep old things alive. And there are long standing dos, atari, amiga, and other emulators, as well as functioning virtual boxes, so if a piece of software is important to someone, it may be worth the extra linux effort.BERFAB wrote:"Fair enough, but a piece of hardware has a chance of lasting a lifetime. I don't post much - but I don't want to pass up a chance to contribute to a most historic thread...
Loved Alchemy and Camel Audio - hope that they are moving on to bigger and better things!

I paid for the iOS version and some IAPs… Surely i could jailbreak my device and get cracked versions of the IAPs in the future (if they exist.) AFAIK, that would be the only way once I buy a new iOS device to continue using the software down the road, since it was PULLED completely from the store, which was the only place to legally download a copy. This is not the quite same issue that OSX and Windows users face. Apple has iOS locked down, but Alchemy was not "Candy Crush" cheap for an iOS app.KBSoundSmith wrote:Going out of business is not a form of wrongdoing toward customers. They didn't screw anyone. in the near term, i invite joe camel to sit on a glass rod! i was a sucker and i bought alchemy. i'm sorry.
Why are people here so conspiratorial in their thinking and judgmental of anyone running a business? Damn, I'm glad people here aren't my customers.
