What would you like to see in Absynth 6?

I think it's a fantastic synth, it's just I had this whole workflow in Kore, with Guitar Rig particularly, they've really messed up. Impossible now, afaict.
My experience went from creative flow to dicking around with software that failed all the time. A5 didn't seem to add much to A4 though, for all of this trouble. Someone using it apart from Kore isn't going to have all this trauma, though.

The more I look at Absynth the more I like it. Now that Alchemy is out of my mind I will focus on Absynth. And now knowing that Kore 2 will not function in the latest version of Absynth I will save some money and time by ignoring it.jancivil wrote:I think it's a fantastic synth, it's just I had this whole workflow in Kore, with Guitar Rig particularly, they've really messed up. I'm too remedial to get on with absynth from a technical side. It's just WAY to complicated. Some of the presets are cool, but even watching/reading up on it it's easily the most complicated synth I've run into.
I see no sound benefits vs others that I can grasp easier. If there was some sound benefit, I'd dig deeper. For now, I just use the presets. ( and I feel that it's kinda funky trying to do that)

I just tried to launch Kore 2 Standalone on my cloned drive. It never would, it kept telling me this .vst and then another .vst it encountered a problem with. Every single one of them caused no problem with Cubase, the only other host I have which deals in .vst, everything's A-Ok. I can't recommend it like at all. This was what started happening when NI made Absynth 5. "Absynth 4.vst caused a problem and won't be scanned." and Absynth f**king 4 was the whole point of Kore 2 for me. It's a POS in the starkest terms. What is different on the cloned drive with this .vst, which wasn't a problem, but the next time it's another. And then again. And then another.Kalamata Kid wrote:The more I look at Absynth the more I like it. Now that Alchemy is out of my mind I will focus on Absynth. They abandoned it and called it finished. They broke it making things work for Maschine, essentially. EDIT: I haven't used it on the drive with OS 10.8.5 so as it was unusable on the clone holding 10.6.8 I uninstalled and reinstalled it, updated it to the 'final' botch. First thing it did 'Absynth 4.vst caused a problem...' LOL. But I replaced Absynth 4.vst in its plugins folder with the final version of that thing and at least in the standalone all of my Absynth based ksds were fine.
Absynth for ambient and space music is the shit. I came from Yamaha/Chowning FM and for me ratios of modulator:carrier is second nature. I always wanted envelopes to extend like that and a nice Graphical approach to making a filter env vs the 'oscillator' env and have it clearly in front of me in a single visual.
The little boxes with numbers, well they're kind of small is all. It's not that hard to cope with for me, for what it does I was kind of preparing for it for years, essentially.
It's not per se a cold sound, that will be the programmer's chops hitting a ceiling. I have some big dirty tones from it and some nice fat moog basses via it. That you use numbers is kind of technical for a lot of people; I have no clue sometimes myself but it was hours of fun for me when I was in its zone.

The UI needs a big overhaul it feels worlds away from Massive.

And that right there is reason #1 why the UI needs a rework. Honestly I think the presentation makes it seem a lot more forbidding and complex than it really is.hibidy wrote:I'm too remedial to get on with absynth from a technical side. The option to modify your own waveforms in Absynth 6 has opened up a lot of venues, at least for me.

i've always hated the way the envelopes work. all the clicking and zooming etc. it's cumbersome and slow for me so i tend to just not use absynth too much.
such a powerful synth that sounds nice but i agree w/the GUI needs an overhaul. needs some workflow help for me to get interested in it again.
but it is what it is.. they need to find a way to keep all the power but make it easier to access

Sorry, I mean to modify the existing waveforms in Absynth -- the manual has all the details.

This thread made me go back and look at absynth again. I am intrigued by the idea of a new version. Absynth is supposed to be a synth with immense modular type capabilities that you get lost in. I love it. If you are looking for a simple preset synth I would look at a sampler (even tho absynth has every preset you could possibly come up with already done for you). The thing about it was that the central selling point for me was the grain filter, and it sounded horribly unmusical. Bring those filters up to speed (especially the granular side) and I would buy in in a heartbeat.

oh yeah...nix the presets in the new version. A synth musician does not want to play a synth that someone else already claimed possession of and completed and finished for you, and a synth player is not interested in a synth that the club kids get ahold off and run into the ground. Keep it classy. Keep it in the domain of the synthesist musician.
