is Kotelnikov only for the master bus or can it be used as a track compressor?

From a quick non-read of the EULA, you'll need a special exception license from TDR. Which needs to be filled out in triplicate, in Russian and filed with the local tracking authorities in your area.
Or you can just do what you want without worrying about approval on the internet.
But, why take a chance, purchase the Gentlemen's Edition and the special permits.

It can work well as a track compressor.AstralExistence wrote:is Kotelnikov only for the master bus or can it be used as a track compressor?
The FDR extra on the GE edition works really well for track duties.

yes, that's what i was asking. does it add latency? and how much latency does it add? as in, too much to be used on every track as a er track compressor.VariKusBrainZ wrote:It does introduce latency though

is that too much for track comping? a better question would be, anybody here use it for as a track compressor?
i always want to know if im doing something right.

I don't even understand. Shouldn't you know the answer to that yourself? If you're using it for mixing a finished track, it shouldn't be a problem, but if you're already using it while still recording audio or midi, ANY amount of latency might cause trouble.AstralExistence wrote:VariKusBrainZ wrote:4.17 ms

That translates as 1/10th of a millisecond or so. Does 1/10th of a millisecond matter to you? Can you hear it when flipping the bypass button? Just because a compressor is marketed or designed for a specific task doesn't mean you have to use it that way. Use your ears to guide you!!AstralExistence wrote:VariKusBrainZ wrote:4.17 ms

no i shouldn't. why do you feel the need to act so presumptuous? why should i know this simply because you do. its no wonder why people are so afraid to ask question on forums because of people like you who feel the need to assert intelligence in place of sharing knowledge.oneshotdeal wrote:I don't even understand. asking questions is intelligence, looking for way to assert intelligence is not, its something people do who are not sure of themselves. i assure you im quite the intelligent guy and people who meet meet often say im the mot intelligent person they know. i feel the need to say this because i can't see why i should be persecuted for simply seeking knowledge that i don't have.

My point was, it's not a matter of knowing or not knowing because it depends. There's no definitive answer to your question because you didn't give any information about what "track comping" means to you. Whether you do or don't yet know what it means to you, I told you in what scenario it was okay to use as a track compressor and in which it wasn't. Therefore I am as of now the only person who actually answered your question without a layer of myth, giving me even more trouble to understand how you managed to see any harm or presumption in that. I guess this is indeed an internet forum after all...AstralExistence wrote:no i shouldn't. why do you feel the need to act so presumptuous? why should i know this simply because you do. its no wonder why people are so afraid to ask question on forums because of people like you who feel the need to assert intelligence in place of sharing knowledge.oneshotdeal wrote:I don't even understand. No it doesnt really matter, it does eat CPU cycles in the high quality modes though.
As long as youve a decent machine and a DAW with decent PDC latency shouldnt really matter,
unless your using plugins live of course.
My bro will happily play guitar through 20ms of latency whereas it just ruins it for me as I cant get the groove I want
