Sonar X3e is rock solid. I use it everyday. The new model isn't as big of a change as some make it out to be. It will be $149 to upgrade for year. After that year, I will own everything I have, even if I don't continue with Sonar. When I upgrade I will get well over the $149 in value from Xln Audio alone, plus many new features.

Wow. Oh well, I'll save money by not buying their products anymore, so it's a good thing. They lost some of my products in their SSO transfer and then put the burden on me to prove I bought them instead checking my old account.

Yeah I remember trying them back in the day. Awful software imo. Their is a reason they are never talked about with adobe audition compared to ableton, logic etc.riley4reason wrote:Wow. I have also been a Cakewalk user since Pro Audio 9....Hewitt Huntwork wrote:I was a 12 Tone Systems / Cakewalk / SONAR customer for 20+ years, up until 2014. Glad I got out before they went membership-based.
I'm really happy with Sonar X3e Pro x64,but it just might be where the road ends...
We'll wait and see what happens here...
But I was wondering just how long it would take Henry to funk everything up...
He has a well deserved reputation for destroying the credibility of the brands that he takes over and Cakewalk will probably be just another one of those horror stories...
He has an MBA,but he should be awarded an honourary PHD in vandalism
He's not passionate about music at all...That is total BS...
He is only passionate about one thing....Money
Sonar X3e Pro x64 is running fine with Windows 7 Pro and I guess my DAW will stay that way for a while
No auto tune...

Well, at least this is slightly more reasonable than what Adobe is doing, which I'm already paying for every month.
To be honest, VocalSync is the only new feature which really interests me. I've been round-tripping through Adobe Audition to align vocal overdubs, so that would be a very useful tool to have integrated into Sonar.
What really fills me with rage is that after all this time, so many versions, and endless feature requests from the users, Cakewalk still hasn't improved the signal routing! I mean, seriously, is it that difficult to allow the output of one audio track to be sent to the input of another? If so, they have some serious flaws in their basic architecture!

Yes they do have serious flaws in their basic architecture: it's heavily dependent on Windows APIs.
I haven't gone back to Cakewalk since 8.5 pissed me off. I was with them for a very long time and learned my lesson. Done with the "we fixed that in the upgrade you didn't buy" nonsense.
I've never done subscriptions and never will. That might be the thing that makes me quit computing if it keeps spreading. It's obscene what rank capitalism gets away with and depressing how people just fall in line with it.

This new membership model gave me a little scare at first, but after looking at it a little closer, it seems to be a great deal for the customer. Pay the annual cost (that I'd be paying for my ~annual upgrades anyway) and get a DAW that is constantly evolving and improving, more frequent updates and fixes, and more transparency regarding its development. I'm not seeing the sky falling from where I'm standing.

What makes you think they'll actually produce more frequent updates?

No [proper] indication (just some bla bla in the new sales pitch with 3 "in the works" updates)... and their support is shitty at best. Testy mods in the forum and a downright toxic environment if you ask questions they don't like (reasonable questions as well... people who know me know I have manners, in real live and online)
I have an unregistered X3 Prod. update serial (from X2 Prod), got half a mind to sell it in the MP and be done with So-so-sonar :/
This scheme to charge for point releases is whack.

The new pricing model is based on adding new features and updates as they are completed, rather than making the customer wait for point releases.Jace-BeOS wrote:What makes you think they'll actually produce more frequent updates?

I love the idea of mix settings/recall (whatever) & larger notes in the PRV, but it's the AD stuff that sells me on this.clintmartin wrote:Sonar X3e is rock solid. I use it everyday. And as an introductory offer it seems strange that I'm biting on it for all the wrong reasons.
But I'm going to be demoing the heck out of every daw soon afterward.
There are a couple of things at NAMM that could change my mind though in terms of priorities, but I don't think I'll feel any pressure applied.
I could be wrong.
