you got it all wrong dude. I can get sonar upgrade for $149 this does me for this years upgrade and 12 months into the future as well making it like I got x4 and x5 for that amount of money,GeorgK wrote:**** EDIT ****
I was obviously confused by the information on the Cakewalk homepage. Therefore my general comments on the prices are incorrect. Sorry.
I leave the orginal text to preserve the context.

Cubase update (every two years) is max. 150 Euro (much cheaper in US, but can also be found for less in EU), so 75 Euros per year. Sonar is minimum 99 Dollars per year ("starting from", which I interpret as "valid for existing customers", new customers will pay more).
Right, if one buys Cubase now new, and sells it next year, it will cost him a little more (although Cubase kept its value very well so far). But over a span of a few years, Cubase Pro will be cheaper.
500 bucks per year for the "big" Sonar is ridiculous. Obviously they hope for a lot of professional user who simply cannot afford to switch DAW on a short-term.

Could you explain what it is you don't like? Because I'm not seeing any negatives at all.She Changed Her Mind wrote:I am sooo happy I didn't buy into this. My doctor advised me to stay calm. Pffew!

That's exactly what you are being offered -- pay the annual-upfront price and be done with it.frankz00 wrote:As for the annuity pricing... no thanks. I like to pay and be done with it....
What exactly is CW supposed to "cut off" in this scenario of yours?frankz00 wrote:.... I know they don't cut off if you stop paying but I'm not confident that they won't in the future and I wouldn't want to contribute to anything that would encourage that behavior!
Again, you own the version outright once you pay for the the annual-upfront option. Just like now... I repeat... Just like now...

No.
No updates/bug fixes for a "full price" product after 12 months.
No thank you.
EDIT:
[source]Cakewalk wrote:Will I still get tech support if I'm not an active SONAR Member?
No.
Purchase at full price up-front, crash after 13 months - aaand yer fukked.
This just keeps getting better and better.
To avoid.

You don't get updates for an old version in most DAWs. A new version a year is the usual Sonar rate. So what?chokehold wrote:[source]Cakewalk wrote:Will I still get patch fixes even if I'm not an active SONAR Member?

About support, if that crash after 13 months is that critical, just pay one monthly fee and get your fukking azz repaired. Anyway, I've never seen a program work correctly for 12 months and then go belly up without the user fukkin it himself. Maybe Cakewalk support have finally found a way to avoid having to deal with that kind of users...
Anyway, reactions in the Cakewalk forums, (after people finally get it, that is) are practically 100% positive.

I don't understand why you guys who are not interested in Sonar are even posting in this thread? I don't use Protools or Cubase and I haven't ever posted in a thread about those products. I certainly haven't posted false information about a product. Some people may have a legit reason for acting the way you are, but Sonar is a product. Cakewalk is a business. They don't owe you free stuff. They're not liable to fix every problem you may have for the rest of your life. Some of you are acting like your entitled to something.
