Should the long-division challenged stay in a market where mathJim Roseberry wrote: It's hard for a company to survive with most of it's revenue coming in one large burst (major new release) every 12-18 months.
is a critical skill? In the TI calculator era, it's faster to do a division calculation,
than 12 addition calculations. And if it halts at 5 or 9, you've made yourself
even more work, and to support someone with some level of negativity.
I also think a business with a history of year-long gaps in releases, would be wise
to diversify it's product line. Maybe get Gibson to partner them with a hairy humped dev,
or some smaller hardware maker like Clavia, who hasn't yet sold out to inMusic or Yamaha
or Hyundai. Leasing an NFR daw? Maybe

No, they went more like "Adobe". And this recent trend is really worrying me, as other host developers might "adapt" this idea. And I HATE subscription systems. And of course the "lack of free updates" once the membership is running out.Tricky-Loops wrote:SONAR goes WUP...
Worst case scenario is a VST plugin company I know from Germany (not mentioning names!), where your plugins simply stop working once you decide to stop the membership.
Does that mean that the VSTi will also get a "membership treatment"?
If that is the case - bye bye Z3ta+ 2 that I've yet to get.
Really not a great start of the year for the music software industry. Actually, the last half year was full of low blows.

They have announced plans for a free demo but it probably won't be released the same day as the product.Breval wrote:With subs does that mean 'pay to demo' now?

Not like Adobe. If the annual payment method is selected, a non-expiring license is issued immediately with 12 months of updates. If the 12 month payment plan is selected, a non-expiring license is issued upon the 12th payment.Compyfox wrote:No, they went more like "Adobe". Someone needs to create a simple flowchart (that nobody will bother looking at) to clear things up.
Logic Pro | LUNA Pro | OB-X8 | Prophet 6 | OB-6 | Trigon 6 | Rev2 | TEO-5 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Minitaur | Integra-7 | TR-1000 | Analog RYTM mk2 | Digitakt 2 | TD-3 MO | TD-3 | Maschine+

Ok, I'll stop, was just having some fun, I realize you also get annoyed at that and I don't lump you into the category.

Hehe, who are you kiddin'? You've built your mind-numbingly high post count on threads like these.hibidy wrote:

Come on, you're not even gonna try to reach 43,000 by the weekend?

Wait, are you talking about Adobe or Cakewalk now? Because if this is about Adobe, then this is new to me. Isn't the new system with a Cloud checkup?scook wrote: Not like Adobe. Either was, this doesn"t answer the updates and VST/VSTi question
So I have to assume, that:
a) free host maintenance updates beyond the subscription (either form) are not available
b) the VST/VSTi releases might go a simikar route in terms of subscription.
Thanks, but no thanks in this case

All versions of SONAR past and present are sold with a non-expiring license. Historically SONAR has generally followed an annual upgrade cycle. Updates are only made to the current product. If one were a serial upgrader the new model does not change much except the delivery schedule of updates. Not sure the value of speculating about the rest of the product line other than for entertainment purposes.

But what if I want to upgrade from X3 producer to platinum 2017, i.e. after two years. Will I pay only $149 and have the latest 2017 version with all the updates for one year (from 2017 to 2018)? Or i must pay the full price then according to the current plan?
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.
