No, Im not going in circles, Im just not doing what you're doing and pretending all 'minor bug fixes' occur before major versions come out. Plenty of minor bugfixes dont get fixed until the next major version.xamido wrote:Now u're going in circle again. In other DAW minor bug fixes is free. FREE. Even sometime they release pretty big update for free.
Your argument is rooted in this disingenuity.

That seems good and serious thing to do - with major bugs like that.fmr wrote:Steinberg already released version 8 of Cubase, but still announced a new 7.5.4 version to be released specifically to cover compatibility with OS X 10.10 - free to all 7.5 users.
I had Elements 7.08 update now that fixed a bug known and acknowledged by Steinberg 16 months ago - how about lead time to fix things?
Aren't we in the backseat with ImageLine here - everything is free once you buy it - but it takes forever to fix things or make progress.
Will workflow for programmers be different if updates are continuous?
As of now most vendors seem to think frequent updates is low status - no major vendor release stuff every week or month. They collect bugs and run 5 updates on a major release, just about - then nothing. Mac OS are subject to making updates that screw up working software from what I read on different forums - but never had a Mac myself.
Cake has a history with not all stable releases, like X1 was possibly the worst and I know many complained that X2 only got an X2a release. But something changed with X3 - and I've seen tremendous improvement in their bugtracking abilities - you get response mails to easily find your report again, you get progress emails saying it was rejected or acknowledged etc. I put great value in someone making an effort - nobody is perfect. And X3d and X3e was nothing but stable, some redrawing problems in tabs with certain Waves plugins in earlier but nothing unstable for me.
I cannot see subscription being worse than anything before by Cake. Frequent updates will no longer be a bad thing for a vendor. No putting things on hold until next major release. Not making rediculous policies like Avid that if you don't renew - buy new license full price - Cake come out as good guys.

The point is minor bug fixes update is always free in other DAW. Always.whyterabbyt wrote:No, Im not going in circles, Im just not doing what you're doing and pretending all 'minor bug fixes' occur before major versions come out. This cakewalk subscription force you to pay for that minor updates and bug fixes if you're not subscribed.
That's all.

Then your 'point' is an outright lie.xamido wrote:The point is minor bug fixes update is always free in other DAW. Always.

whyterabbit's point is that you don't always get those updates. the fact that they're theoretically free doesn't mean you will get those updates in the first place. in fact, according to others in this thread (i don't own SONAR, never have, probably never will), Cakewalk has a history of rolling the fixes into upgrades. fixes that should have been part of minor updates, which you say should be free. thus, in theory, fixes are free with current model. in practice, oftentimes they're not as they are released as part of a new major version, which you have to pay for to upgrade to.xamido wrote:The point is minor bug fixes update is always free in other DAW. Name other DAW that charge for a minor update?whyterabbyt wrote:Then your 'point' is an outright lie.xamido wrote:The point is minor bug fixes update is always free in other DAW. Always.
2.6.5.30360 version like Studio One update? or 11.1.1 like FL Studio? or 9.1.7 like Ableton Live?
Those minor update are free for all user of that version.
Without any major version update anymore from Cakewalk, then you're left paying annually for bug fixes and imaginary features.

Name any DAW which has never fixed outstanding minor bugs in a next major version.xamido wrote:Name other DAW that charge for a minor update?

I'm talking about small updates that's bug fixes. Have any other DAW actually charge for that small bug fixes update? A version that's specifically release to fix minor bug.Burillo wrote:doesn't Cubase charge for .5 releases?
Maintenance update. Not big enough update that added several new features.

You're good at cherry picking, i gave u that. so Studio One's "maintenance updates" don't actually count as "minor updates" then, since they add features?xamido wrote:I'm talking about small updates that's bug fixes. No, wrong way round. Your claim, your burden of proof and all that.xamido wrote:You name the one in my question first, then i'll answer yours.whyterabbyt wrote:Name any DAW which has never fixed outstanding minor bugs in a next major version.xamido wrote:Name other DAW that charge for a minor update?
