Has anybody got the sequencer modulators tempo-synced on the newest version? Setting the sequencer to 'beats' doesn't seem to do anything useful for me in Live 8. Certainly doesn't respond to tempo changes.

Post

Ran into my first bug. Anybody else able to recreate this because it's a bad one.

The other day when I purchased it, I created a number of user presets. All worked fine. Using Cubase 7.

Today, when I started up Cubase and went to load in these presets, they play just fine, but none of the settings, including the sound file itself, show up. It's as if it's a blank preset.

Oddly, the preset I made today, after closing Cubase and restarting it, does show up still. But the others are all blank. The settings seem to be saved somewhere because they all play properly, including any MIDI controls such as mod wheel. But nothing shows and I can't make any changes to them.

Very strange.

** EDIT ** Figured out problem. It has to do with the slots. When reloading, display defaults to slot 1. If you didn't load your wave into slot 1, it won't display. You have to activate the slot where you actually loaded it. If anybody else is having this problem, look at your slots and see which one lights up when you play the keyboard.

So that brings up a good question. When you save the preset does it save your last selected slot? It would be nice if it automatically selected the slot being used if all other slots are empty or maybe the most complicated slot. Or saving the last selected would be good, maybe that is what it is doing. I guess not a big deal really

Well I just threw done the small amount of money for this. Hopefully it works okay in FL studio. I just couldn't stop thinking about it. ABOUT TO TEST IT OUT :hyper:

I spoke to Tom. It defaults to slot 1.

Something else I discovered, if you're a 3rd party preset developer. Saving the presets does not save the physical audio file with it, just a reference to the spot on your hard drive where it's stored. So if you don't send those to the buyer along with the presets they'll get a bank of sounds that don't play.

This could make 3rd party development a bit of a pain.

Post

And even if they send them, wouldn't they have to be in the same place on disk? That's not super reasonable, if it really works that way.

Checking it out. I'd like to see some more exotic grain windowing types, all parameterized so you can create different families of sounds.

GAS just wants to be free.

Or at least affordable.

Honestly, (and I love Alchemy) the Mangle's granular engine totally crushes Alchemy's. It is more flexible and you have more controls on the grains, and it sounds way cleaner, way smoother or way sharper depending what you do with it. In term of pure granular synthesis sound, to my ears Mangle totally surpasses Alchemy. What kind of features and things does Alchemy does and not Mangle?

i dunno, but i mailed the dev and got no answer yet :(

for example i couldnt get good results or the following things done:

1. have it stretched 0%
2- stretched between 0% - 100% and have it randglided, randholded etc. with lfo

Yeah I know, the dev is unfortunately not very responsive & pretty unstable in term of support. I'll try to give you a help with yours issues:

1. have it stretched 0%
By stretched 0%, do you mean freezing here the sound at a particular position in the sample? If that's what you mean, it's already frozen at 0% with the position not moving when you first fire up Mangle. Just more the position parameter in the sample to play a frozen portion of the sound… Or maybe you mean something else?

2- stretched between 0% - 100% and have it randglided, randholded etc. with lfo
Easily doable. Assign by dragging a random lfo (Rnd 1, meant exactly for doing this) on the position parameter. The put the position parameter far left at the start of the sample (meaning 0%) and bring the modulation parameter of the Rnd 1 lfo to the maximum, meaning that the random lfo is going to bounce from 0% to 100%, since you've put it to the max…

I really can't think of something Alchemy can do that Mangle doesn't, in term of granular, really….

THANKS a lot!

@1: check this pic, i can set the Stretch to 0%

Image

in The Mangle it plays the whole sample at position 0%. i see no STRETCH knob or something. this is what i love about alchemy! it works not for all audio but you can get very fast drones/pads and then add a modulation and let it modulated 5% bipolar and you got some movement ;), couldnt get this in mangle yet!

The ‘’stretch’’ knob itself doesn’t exists in Mangle no, it’s just controlled via the speed of an lfo, that’s all. Same thing, same stretch results! It's totally doable, don’t know what else to say really
