When I demoed it a while back I really liked it, but the price was too much for me, this sale price is do'able but I've blown my budget on EQ / Comps for now.
It was E Channel that I loved, the channel comp in particular.
Now that I have the Glue and VBC grey I'm happy enough with my SSL Bus Comp emu's, so that also diminishes the value of the bundle for me.

Even a 3-1 sale would be fantastic, but I bet I'll have bought The Glue and the Waves CLA Classic comps by then...itneveris wrote:Yeah they'll have sales again, but a 5-for-1 sale? Not likely to play out like that again for a while

Maybe they are not like SSL (I don´t know), but they sound good what they are. For instance The Glue (great of course!) is very sensitive like mentioned in this thread, but Waves comp is more effortless. EQs are with a sense of raw sound and power behind it.TheoM wrote:i don't get it. Can someone explain to me why they like these? I know for a fact, that the bus compressor sounds nothing like an ssl bus compressor. Nothing.
I read from somewhere that the default routing is not the best for the channel strips.
I don´t own it yet myself and the bundle is very tempting at this price.. must.. resist another minute..

The Waves SSL package does deserve an extensive demo at this price, IMHO. To my ears, it helps impart a snap and punch that other emulations may not match, and works especially well for rock/pop styles. Others may sound better on individual tracks in isolation, but the Waves plugs seem to help mixes gel together IME. If it matters to you, they've been used successfully by pros on commercial tracks for many years, but as always, YMMV. Good luck!
Cheers,
Eddie
Waves SSL is the best emu on the market. I do not like slate, IKM and NI at all. They miss that salt and pepper to me

In response to the freeware suggestions earlier, I just use *inches toward desk* Antress's SSL clone *dives under desk*

So, best on the market TO YOU. You missed that very essential point which is that this is nothing more than an opinion, and not fact.poshook wrote:+1Eddie TX wrote:Each of these SSL emulations has its own sonic character. you are right in your opinion. the fact is that www.kvraudio.com is just about opinions. no opinions means no kvraudio.com forum discussionsitneveris wrote:So, best on the market TO YOU. No no, the fact that that's YOUR opinion is not my opinion, it is a fact.
You, however, stated YOUR opinion as tho it was fact.
You're not very clever, at least not as much as you think you are.

Doesn't everyone? All these comments are just opinions, even when someone says "I know for a fact that this sounds like that" -- it's just someone's perception, which may not hold true for someone else.itneveris wrote:No no, the fact that that's YOUR opinion is not my opinion, it is a fact.

Back on topic, while I do think the Waves bundle is worth consideration, I should mention that if the sale price seems daunting and you're still craving some SSL flavor, this plug is also worth checking out: http://www.overtonedsp.co.uk/download/download_dyn4000/
For a small fraction of the cost of other SSL emus, you'll get a lot of that flavor -- there's no EQ or bus compressor, but the classic SSL sound resides in large measure in that channel dynamics section. No-brainer price, in any case. Happy demoing!
Cheers,
Eddie

Yeah, the Overtone 4000 is a steal right now at half-price: $12.50 (also 12.50 GBP and Euro, I think).
I gladly paid $20 in the last sale (and don't begrudge paying more).
There's a great deal on all four of the vertical GUI "500 series" plug-ins as a bundle, too.
Back to Waves: the original release was nine years ago and they were the first SSL plug-in models to my knowledge.
I'm tempted, since I wanted the bundle for so long... but, we have all of the SSL Duende plug-ins, as well as all IK, NI, PSP, Slate and Overtone SSL models (might even be forgetting some).
So... maybe not.
