Ah yeah... For instance, the Bert Gotrax voice benefits from increasing lows and highs and reducing mids (disco smile). It sounds bandpassed because that's how the real Votrax chip sounds!Sendy wrote:I can send the Cubase project file of my joke track if you like. It's very light, just Chipspeech and Chipsounds. There's not much automation, though, just CC2 commands to cue in each line. The most interesting thing is the weird positioning you have to do for note-ons and note-offs. I had Snap permanently turned off by the end of the session. And EQ is mandatory for some of the speech models

I just installed Chipspeech. It's the shiznitz. Just what I wanted. It's good to be pleased.
Just the presets are a great set of starting points. I haven't cracked the manual yet and I'm firing off whatever phrases that I can dream up and they sound very intelligible. It's gonna get fun dropping midi parts and editing them to get each syllable just right. Legato lets you sustain a syllable through multiple midi note. New notes start the next syllable (phenome?). I'm starting to get lots of ideas...

I just let it sing
English or Japanese text
for a while. Guess what inspired me.
upon further experimentation it seems that the X-Sampa 'x' resembles the German ch (as in Kuchen or as the Spanish J in Jalapeno) quite closely, whereas the X-Sampa 'C' (as in ich, dich, mich) is identical with X-Sampa 'S', which in reality isn't the case. Well, for certain dialects of German it might be the case, but not usually. And when you know what it's supposed to sound like, i.e. if you see the lyrics, your brain kind of tricks you into hearing a difference between 'C' and 'S'.
Has anyone observed this, too? I mean, the part about your brain tricking you into hearing certain sounds only because you are aware of the lyrics?
I am guessing the French nasal accents and things like that will also be difficult to achieve currently.
In case someone is curious, Jalapeno looks like this, when I try to teach chipspeech singing it: [xVlV] penny O

just realized the [x] is also pretty much the sound that appears in hebrew. (shalom [x]averim) Don't know much hebrew, just two songs we learned in elementary school, but I remember we were supposed to sing it with that x-sampa [x]. A look at youtube confirmed it.

I hope you don't mind I tweaked a few params live to show the dynamics.

2 (related) questions:
How long does the intro price last?
When is the demo coming out?
thanks, I'm probably buying it anyway, but would like to test it first...

Hi
The demo wont be out till next week, maybe later. We are tweaking some things from the comments so far, but complaints have been minimal
I'm afraid the intro price will go away as soon as the demo is out, so you have this week for sure.

It must be super helpful to have three hands!davidv@plogue wrote:A friend came by the office today and messed a bit with the live MIDI performance mode of chipspeech.

Anything I do needs to be instantly playable, and its a thrill to see what others do with it!

Not meant as a trick, that video was the first time I showed the beta to my friend, and wanted to show him some of the modulations.Jace-BeOS wrote: It must be super helpful to have three hands!

Same here. At least it only costs half as much as a Haken Continuum. :-Omedienhexer wrote:Damn you Chad, thanks to that video, I now want a Linnstrument!

Haven't had a lot of time to play with this yet, but already I am absolutely sold!
It's hard to pinpoint what it is about these type of sounds... somehow they are mechanical and strangely alive at the same time. Can't wait to make some actual music with this. Thanks a million for all the time & effort you spent on this plugin, the results speak (heh) for themselves!
