You can find out about his adventures if you can be bothered to read 'Pyramids' by Sir Terry Pratchett.
That camel is named You Bastard.
oops..Bloody Stupid lives over in Tsort....
Sorry!
sadly missed opportunity to change your location to 'didjabringabeeralong, xxxx' too :D
There's an idea :tu:

I just realized I spent an hour creating patches in Alchemy and never used anything but the VA/Basic/Saw wave.........

Alchemy has always been a highly underrated VA synth.....

From reading the other thread, yes, but you don't get support without the subscription version.

It is a great VA, quite flexible. However, for me, Alchemy's strength is a toolset that lets me sound design in a different way that I can't on other synths. I have plenty of VA's already, but none that can work with organic sound in interesting ways.

For instance, the other night, I dug out Alchemy, chose a preset pad sound, whacked it through a ridiculously long/infinite reverb and played some notes to create a harmonically interesting drone for about 40 seconds. Bounced that to audio, and chose another sound and did a similar part, bounced that to audio as well. Then played both those tracks, with a little bit of other fx's and panning automation in the DAW, and bounced that down to a stereo file.

I took that final bounce, and loaded it up into a granular oscillator in Alchemy, played around with the granular stuff, duplicated onto a second oscillator and changed the settings, both oscillators going through independent filters with a little bit of modulation - literally the synthesis stuff took like five minutes, nothing complex going on all, but ended up with this lovely stuttering subtley morphing gorgeous textural pad.

I really like how I can do a bit more organic synthesis and audio/sample manipulation than a typical VA, really easily but with a lot of power and potential. It's like a "synthpler", and it's unique toolset and capabilities mean it earns a place in my setup and can't be easily replaced by other instruments.

It's a great VA, but it can go a lot further than that, and has a really well designed interface that's fast and easy but doesn't limit you or restrict you from doing complex things if you want to.

I really like it, a lot.

Finally it dawns on me why Camel Audio has given up on plugs.

Oh yes I'm fully well aware of that and I've gotten some amazing other worldly patches from Alchemy. I just wanted to point out the fact that even without samples to draw from it's a very capable synth..........

Now why would I go let a bunch of facts ruin a perfectly good rant? :)

Ok, I realize what Cake is doing is a bit different, but it reminded me of what's happening elsewhere in the industry with subscription models. But yeah, I agree their setup is different in terms of "value add" etc.
You need to limit that rez, bro.

I wanted to post a pic of that the other day... as I drive into the city (Auckland) they are renovating a block of flats with a HUGE banner across their scaffolding structure... driving + taking pics = does not go well :clown:
