Is anyone using XP in a system with two hard drives in removable caddies?

Is so, and one of the drives contains the OS, what has been your experience with XP's product activation?

Microsoft tells me that if I temporarily remove the caddy with the OS drive then replace it, I'm up for a new activation. I'm just wondering if this is true in practice from other people's experience.

Only if you remove caddy and put new hard drive in caddy then replace.

I have Windows XP on usb drive that work fine on this computer with no activation. I do not move it for now

If this is a real problem you can disable activation

This is not something that is allowed by microsoft but this is easy to do

I know this may seem paranoid to some, but in my current Win2K system, I remove all my drives and lock them in a fireproof safe whenever I'm on extended vacation. I'd like to have the same setup with my new computer. You see, I live in an area that is prone to bush fires in the Summer, especially now that we haven't had good rain for a long while.

It's jsut a peace of mind thing.

I suppose I could set my new computer up with a fixed system/application drive and have a removable data drive with audio and Cubase song files.

Hey, no problems there, but one thing. What is the rating of the fireproof safe for the internal temp fo the safe, and how long will it protect for? There's a lot of fireproof safes that paper will survive, but other media, such as CDs or floppies will be destroyed. HAte for you to have a false sense of security, that's all.

What's interesting is that MS customer support in Australia initially didn't even know much about product activation. The dude originally told me that all I needed was my product key. HA! Wonder where they get some of these support people from.
