picking up Komplete 2 and getting surprised by the capabilities of Intakt, I've been digging through old coverdisc samples and esp. construction kits.
I've even developed a preference for the work of the Groove Kriminals. I really appreciate the craft that goes into layering a beat with a bass and the atmo pad and the zaps and zots extras. I think when they include the full mix and the separate elements it's really a great teaching tool. That blend really gives me something to work towards.
Twice in the last few weeks, I've been drawn into using beat lines from Construction Kits. I built up a project around that and near the end I removed that canned beat and replaced it with something of my own that was just easier to shift about and fool with through a drum synth.
Not that I haven't tried to beatslice the canned beat and work through all that, it just doesn't come together as well.
The song development does work pretty well with a canned groove. It forces me to keep open that sonic space, then I remove it and fill it with something else.
But I don't think that's why these construction kit were originally developed. Were these originally set up for use in Acid or an Ableton Live environment? If you use construction kits, how do you use them?

I love production kits!
I both create my own in the process of writing and use the ones in RMIV, which are fantastic
I think construction kits come in handy because they give the song a faux fine-tuned feel, which can often be vital to getting ideas in my opinion.

ive never used a whole kit to make a track. ive got many sample cd's but i only try and use 1 or 2 different samples in a track, kinda just to build inspirsation, and usually buy the time im done tweaking it, you cant recognize the original sample anyways.

hehe how true!Neil G wrote:ive never used a whole kit to make a track.
Aint it funny, having lots of prefab kits at your disposal is such a great and tempting thing, but in the end I almost always end up using many single hits.
I keep meaning to load up a kit and make a track, but nothing seems to really fit the bill in the end.
