Ach, there's always the noise, the tedious cult taunts, the superior condescension. Let 'em have their fun while the rest of us make film scores, TV shows, games and hit records with the best products in the business.

this so-called 'grace period' is a pretty dodgy move

Why? Because of the timeframe from October '14 to May '15?
Keep in mind, you get a new plugin with an upgrade price of 249USD (499USD MSRP) for free in this case.
Unless I am missing the sarcasm again.

because it favours those who are 'going to buy' at the last minute, rather than those who have been loyal for yearsCompyfox wrote:Why?
what first felt like a loophole (that i really thought spectrasonics would seek to close), is now being promoted by various 3rd-part sellers as a kind of no-brainer opportunity. how ironic that the people who might take most advantage are those who have spent the last few years slagging off omnisphere on the forums. now they think the update is worthy, and can buy in cheaper than those who spent years defending
i don't have any issue with grace periods, no matter how long. it is a great policy to have for those who unwittingly buy into something, just before being asked to pay out again for an update. the problem here is that the loophole exists because spectrasonics couldn't keep a lid on it, and stick to their word i.e for the last few years, we have been told that they would no longer show at namm, and that we'd know about omnisphere updates when they were ready. suddenly, they decided to show at namm to benefit from all that hype, leaving this whole limbo period. if they'd kept to what they've been saying, then we would have got an email on april 30th, that omnisphere 2 was here. in the same email, "if you have bought omnisphere in the last xxx months, your update is free"

So essentially what you're saying is that your problem with this is knowing in advance. Either way, the end result is the same. Those who had Omnisphere for years and were loyal all that time don't get a discount while those who just purchased do. Physically, nothing changes other than perception.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:because it favours those who are 'going to buy' at the last minute, rather than those who have been loyal for yearsCompyfox wrote:Why?

I bought my Omni just 1 month before the grace period. Oh well, sucks to be me. I'm not going to get all bent out of shape about it. I'll either buy it at the upgrade price or I won't. Complaining won't change anything.
And as for people who don't own Omni yet, if they do go out and buy it now, they're still paying full price, or close to it, for the software. So what are they really getting over on the rest of us. It's not like they can get Omni for $249 and then get the update for free. It's still going to cost them a nice chunk of change. So I don't see where the problem is.
Plus, while they may be getting it for slightly less, we've had the advantage of having used it all this time, especially those who have had the software for years. That's something nobody can take away from those owners.
I just don't see what the big deal is.

Actually, technically I missed it by 2 months. Whatever. I didn't even know about Omnisphere before that as I had just got into PC recording in July of that year. This is all very new to me. When I first saw Omnisphere I thought it was cutting edge new stuff. I had no idea it was that old. Amazes me that something that old sounds that good.
Still not sure if I'm getting the upgrade in April as I don't even know if my PC can handle it. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. In the meantime, it's something to look forward to.

in your situation i would also have zero issue. that's just how it is, you buy as and when you feel to, and take your chances. at least with spectrasonics, they maintained a steady price, and thus the value of the productwagtunes wrote:Actually, technically I missed it by 2 months. as regards not updating, i would wonder how long version 1 will be supported (less of an issue on the pc side, i believe)

A Grace Period of 72 month would be fair.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:because it favours those who are 'going to buy' at the last minute, rather than those who have been loyal for yearsCompyfox wrote:Why?
